2015: "The Insane Vaccine Debate"
The Federalist ^ | FEBRUARY 3, 2015 | Ben Domenech

Posted on 09/11/2021 9:46:42 AM PDT by Mr Rogers

The issue of mandatory vaccination is once again an item of debate in media circles given the recent outbreaks in measles, and fueled this week by the continued inability of politicians to discuss vaccination policy without sounding like anti-science fools....

The current vaccine debate, unlike those prior ones, is actually motivated by a real problem (the return of diseases presumed previously eradicated) as opposed to conspiratorial musings....But vaccination is not about protecting the vaccinated so much as it is about protecting others from disease-carriers. Vaccines are properly understood not on the basis of narrow self-interest but as a defense of the human species.

Fundamentally, the protection against life-threatening plague is one of the original reasons government exists...

If you choose not to vaccinate, private and public institutions should be able to discriminate on that basis. Disneyland should be able to require proof of vaccination as a condition of entry, and so should public schools. You shouldn’t be compelled to vaccinate your child, but neither should the rest of us be compelled to pretend like you did....

If the decline in MMR vaccination continues, perhaps the federal government could take the step of making access to the child tax credit contingent upon vaccination. If we’re going to have redistributive social engineering in the tax code, it may as well be for children who aren’t carrying disease around Disneyland....

You mean all this time when they’ve been yelling “Follow the science!” they meant political science?

“It’s his opinion and just as valid as any other.”

Not all opinions are valid. I agree everyone should have the right to their opinion - but that doesn’t mean they are all valid - far from it.

I know many who are of the opinion that the 2020 election was not stolen.

Is it their right to express that opinion? Yes.
Does that mean that opinion is valid? Of course not.

“Valid” means “rational”, “reasonable”, “sound”, “well-founded”.
Is the opinion that the election was not stolen any of those things?

We have had lengthy discussions around here about how difficult it is to conduct accurate polls in the age of the cell phone...Ouija boards probably provide more accurate data.

Well, Satan is involved in both forms of inference, so there is that.

“But vaccination is not about protecting the vaccinated so much as it is about protecting others from disease-carriers”

What a bunch of BS, vaccinations have always been about protecting the individual who got vaccinated. What is wrong with these people.

This debate is a distraction from Biden's many other disasters.

It will be weeks/months before OSHA comes up with the rules and debates and lawsuits will push this well into 2022.

Agree ...I do not concern myself with the choices of others; until I am convinced those choices present a danger to me, mine or freedom. I am not yet convinced the government should mandate COVID vaccinations for the general public. But I don’t see any reason an employer or a private business can’t decide whether or not to require the jab.

In 2006, Domenech was hired as a blogger by The Washington Post, but resigned three days later after verified plagiarism in prior work.[4] In 2013 his work was removed from The Washington Examiner and The Huffington Post after it was disclosed that he had received payments from an agent for Malaysia in exchange for writing opinion pieces favorable to that country.[5][6][7

A pandemic provides the perfect storm for the conflict between individual and corporate responsibilty. A bigger problem, however, is the desire to incite fear for gain of profit and of power, using disinformation to that end. Neither individually nor corporately is there room for gullibility, which is nothing less than the abandonment of prudence.

I don’t see any reason an employer or a private business can’t decide whether or not to require the jab.

I have no problem with an employer telling _prospective_ employees they have to take a jab.

The problem is with existing employees. If you unilaterally change the working conditions (in a way that is very important--at least to some employees) you are basically stabbing them in the back, baiting and switching them.

That would apply to _any_ type of major change in working conditions--very very bad employee relations.

I suppose a corporation _can_ do that--but it is so stupid and evil that only the most Neanderthal clowns would even consider it.

“The federal government could take the step of making access to the child tax credit contingent upon vaccination. If we’re going to have redistributive social engineering in the tax code, may as well be for children who aren’t carrying disease around Disneyland....”

Question: If the vaccinations work, what are the vaccinated so worried about?

Answer: they know they don’t work.

Question: If 99.98% of those who catch covid recover and develop natural immunity, then why do they need a vaccination?

Answer: They don’t. This is about selling vaccines - not about science. $cience, not science.

But vaccination is not about protecting the vaccinated so much as it is about protecting others from disease-carriers.

Hmmmmm…….it’s amazing how they have convinced so many that it’s only those that haven’t got the shot that are spreading it. While at the same time admitting that even those with the shots can get it and spread it.

So, if two people walk into a room. One has the shot. One doesn’t. One is positive for covid but is asymptomatic. A third person comes in and catches covid. Who’d they get it from?

Wuli wrote: “It would be better if society fully sheltered & vaccinated all the vulnerable - the very elderly and those with comorbidities, and then set about achieving herd immunity in the rest of the population, by way of asymptomatic and otherwise non-fatal infections.”

Wouldn’t that also be an infringement on freedom? Or, will the ‘fully sheltered’ be volunteers?

These things are NOT vaccines.

And the number is over 99%.

And the very large majority of that is folks getting over it without any medical intervention at all.

And when the CDC has to change the definition of what a vaccine does, from what’s it’s been for decades, to accommodate the short comings and deficiencies in these treatments, something ain’t right. And I think the credibility of the entire organization is shot.

When anything starts out immediately with a falsehood, everything else is not to be taken seriously. The jabs are NOT a vaccine. The fidiots can redefine it a 1000 times and it will still not be a vaccine. Everything with the cold and flu called Corona is a scam.
