An antioxidant drug reverses atherosclerosis and could be used to prevent heart attacks and strokes due to clots.
Atherosclerosis is the build-up of fatty deposits in the arteries. When a type of fat called LDL cholesterol becomes oxidized and builds up to form plaques in the artery walls, inflammation and damage increase which can cause the plaques to rupture and cause blood to clot.
These clots can block vital arteries that allow blood to flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, or to the brain causing a stroke.
Previously, researchers at the University of Reading discovered that LDL cholesterol can be oxidized in acidic small 'bags' called lysosomes in immune cells within the artery wall.
Now, Professor David Leake and his team have found that the antioxidant drug, cysteamine, has the power to switch off, and even reverse, this damaging process.
Cysteamine works by accumulating in the lysosomes and stops the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. It is already known to be safe in humans where it's used to treat a rare lysosomal disease called cystinosis.
When the researchers looked at mice with atherosclerosis, those treated with cysteamine had a 32 to 56 percent reduction in the size of atherosclerotic plaques depending on the part of the aorta—the largest artery in the body—that was examined.
Cysteamine decreased the amount of oxidized fat by 73 percent and increased the stability of the atherosclerotic areas. It decreased the proportion of inflammatory white blood cells by 55 percent and increased the area made up of smooth muscle cells by 85 percent, ultimately reducing the chance of plaques rupturing and causing a blood clot.

sounds good to me. anything that reverses the plaque is a thumbs up.
excellent resource. Thank you and appreciate you sharing your experience. Super helpful.
Vescepa EPA Omega 3 prescription does the same. Data > FDA approval to confirm. I buy EPA only (NO DHA) OTC Omegavia EPA 500 and Carlson EPA Gems. DHA Omega 3 is detrimental to Cardio health. May be great for other conditions in younger folks.

Hope it helps you too.
I eat a very healthy diet, lots of organic veggies, which I steam to preserve nutrients. No sweets, grass-fed beef, pasture raised chicken and eggs.
Not all veggies need to be organic. Go look at Environmental Working Group online, ewg.org I think, for their list of the clean fifteen veggies and fruits that don’t need to be organic and the dirty dozen, those that do. So very easy. Yogurt with organic blueberries for dessert. Addicted to lemon yogurt. Don’t miss ice cream.
And red wine before dinner for the heart-healthy resveratrol it contains. Besides, I like it. 1 or 2 glasses. Blueberries have resveratrol too.
My doc says I’ll live to be 100. Good muscle tone helps. I’m 85 and have to see my b@tchy kitty through her lifespan because who else would put up with her?

Interesting - I may look for this at the store. I have had a great deal of issues with high blood fat levels for many years.

you really can’t buy pantetheine, only pantethine, which is two pantetheine molecules connected with a disulfide bond ... even more importantly, one wants to buy pantethine, NOT the cheaper pantothenic acid, because pantetheine/pantethine breaks down into cystamine and pantothenic acid and ONLY the cystamine has cardio-protective effects like lowering triglycerides, lowering LDL, and raising HDL, whereas the pantothenic acid component has none of those beneficial effects ...
Good point, and I added that in post #7.
I think that you are confusing Pantethine, which is an available supplement with pantetheine- “Not to be confused with pantethine.”
The OTC supplement, pantethene, is two molecules of pantethiene.
That’s very interesting!
I saw that, just might have to restart taking panthetine.
Oh Yeah...
Love it!! And completely get the kitty comment as well. ;D. Doing hard time here as well with a very vocal one! :D. Appreciate your sharing of wisdom! Congrats too on the commitment!
Read later.
I do not know about Equate but pantethine is sold here: https://www.swansonvitamins.com/swanson-ultra-pantesin-pantethine-300-mg-60-sgels
Informative. Thanks.
