Any plumbers or contractors in the house? (Vanity)

Posted on 09/07/2021 5:46:35 PM PDT by Jamestown1630

I need a swivel spray attachment for my kitchen sink – one that converts from spray to stream.

We bought a cheap one on Amazon, and the adapter stripped as my husband was trying to install it. Everything in this line on Amazon seems to be very cheap (and Chinese) – selling for 12 dollars or less – and it’s the same with what I’m finding at the big local hardware stores. I’m willing to pay a lot more for something METAL that actually works, from an actual company.

It’s a typical kitchen faucet, the aerator appears to be 15/16 (which is what they seem to call a 3/4” diameter measurement of the outside (apologies if I’m ignorant about all of this – but we ARE.)

If anyone has a suggestion, I’d greatly appreciate it. (We live in an apartment, and can’t use one of those that attach to an opening and pull out with a hose.)

The funny thing is that many years ago, in our first apartment, we bought a cheap one from a small independent hardware store – and it served us very well for many years.

Thanks.

Got a metal one at Lowe’s, took the aerator off screwed it on, works great. IIRC it was around $19 plus tax.

You could, and I hesitate to mention it because of the ridicule I will surely suffer, get one of these. https://www.amazon.com/VENETIO-Anti-leaking-Multi-function-304-Stainless/dp/B081MVKZQT

Pull one of the doors off of the cabinet under the sink and it is a bolt in deal.

Put the door back on and remove it when the lease is up.

Unsightly but functional.

Do you know the name of it?

My search just brought up more cheap plastic ones at Lowe’s, as well as at Home Depot.

Gresham’s law of plumbing fixtures. If it is impossible to tell the difference between fixtures in the market place, the more valuable fixtures will be withdrawn from the market. Since 99% of people don’t have a clue about plumbing fixtures, there are no good fixtures in the market.

Same with everything else. 99% of all consumers, for all products, are idiots, therefore, all products are cheap sh!t.

Go to a plumbing supply store. Buy Kohler . They stand behind their products. Plumbing supply sells better kohler than Home Depot . 300 plus

I was looking for Kohler; but do they even make an attachment like this?

All the big companies seem to be into creating the entire system, and don’t offer little add-ons like this...

Well, thanks.

That all may be true, but I’m not sure how useful it is to my current issue...

But, Hey! It’s a vanity - so you can say what you want.

You point to a challenge, but fortunately it is not entirely true. There are high-end companies that provide high quality products products reliably.

For tools, Festool is unbeatable for some things. I wish I had learned how good their track saws are 20 years ago. I have found Bosch to be very high quality across the board from tools to appliances. I have a Miller portable welder that is exceptionally good.

For faucets I have found Kraus and KWC to be very very good.

But, at the same time, just because you pay a high price doesn’t mean you avoid buying Chinese crap. And, there is a lot of truth in what you say. Dewalt for instance is famous for having taken a nose-dive in quality.

What really frosts me is when I don’t have a choice and end up with a tool or hardware that is Chinese junk and words somewhere between nonce and once.

What do you expect?

“But I’m not allowed to change the fixtures here. I just need a little attachment.”

Sounds like a Jerry Seinfeld episode to me.

Well, I don’t live in NYC, but I do live in an apartment where they pretty much dictate what I can do here.

(I never found Seinfeld very interesting. Kramer was my favorite character, but even he only caused me to watch a few episodes before getting bored as hell.)

I have a Delta in my kitchen. It sprays and streams. The best feature is the magnetic arm that retracts the nozzle. Not sure how much it cost, as we had custom cabinets and a lot of other things.

My plumber (and I spend a lot of time on plumbing issues) would tell you to avoid the cheap stuff, and even some of the glorious brand names are not what they used to be. (You never know what’s made in China now.)

Faucets with cartridges are likely to need attention within a few years and you can’t find that or any other necessary parts in stores, you have to order online. It’s as if they need to know directly and exactly how their products are faring, not rely on hardware stores to give them a rough idea.

I won’t recommend a brand but I suggest you open your wallet. “You get what you pay for.” Buy junk and you’ll be paying the plumber to show up sooner and more often, and he is NOT cheap.

“I can’t get under the cupboards any more, not as flexible these days”

I have only a little trouble getting under the sink to do my own plumbing. I just can’t get out. I’m been on a portable lap top under the sink for days now.

I just bought one of these for my mom from home depot for 89 dollars. It is brushed metal. I am almost positive it was not made in shithole china.

No but I have a good plumber joke....

“This lawn supervisor was out on a sprinkler maintenance job and he started working on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ gangly wrench. Just then, this little apprentice leaned over and said, “You can’t work on a Findlay sprinkler head with a Langstrom 7″ wrench.” Well this infuriated the supervisor, so he went and got Volume 14 of the Kinsley manual, and he reads to him and says, “The Langstrom 7″ wrench can be used with the Findlay sprocket.” Just then, the little apprentice leaned over and said, “It says ‘sprocket’ not ‘socket’!”
