Police have arrested Tetsuo Urata on suspicion of stealing 730 pieces of women’s underwear from coin laundries, after a 21-year-old college student alerted authorities that six pairs of her underwear had disappeared. Authorities in the southern Japanese city of Beppu raided 56-year-old Tetsuo Urata’s home in late August and told media they “haven’t confiscated such a large number of panties in years.”
Police seized 730 pieces of female underwear during the search, which followed accusations towards Tetsuo from an unnamed 21-year-old female college student. She told police Tetsuo had pilfered six pairs of her underwear in a laundromat on August 24.

This guy is 56 y/o. He’s probably been collecting undies since his teens. I’m guessing he had them all labeled, dated and catagorized according to fragrance.
Japanese women are modest, no thongs in there.
I thought the same thing ... probably took the investigator few days to lay them out just right.
Now - how do they get them back to their rightful owner?
THAT part of the investigation must be fun.
I thought Laz lived in Atlanta??
I should be offended or angry or depressed or...something.
But I just want to laugh at it...can’t help it.
He travels under the nom de plume of ‘sniffy joe’
I did business in Japan for over 25 years. One of the more curious things about Japan is the fixation on women’s white bloomers by men. It used to be that there were even kiosk machines in some of the bar districts where you could buy female tidy whities.
14 posts. It took 14 replies before someone posted the obvious. Thanks gator. We can always count on you to do the right thing.

An old wanker.
"how do they get them back to their rightful owner?"
BTW, I didn’t know you have a ping list (Texas).. could you please add me?
“The seemingly uncanny case of underwear theft is actually not so uncommon in Japan. In March, Takahiro Kubo, a 30-year-old electrician, was accused by authorities of stealing 424 pieces of underwear and swimsuits from teenage girls in the southwestern Saga prefecture. In 2019, police found more than 1,100 items of female underwear kept in futon cases after raiding the home of Toru Adachi in a coastal Oita prefecture, another busted Japanese underwear thief”.
No COVID lockdowns in Japan, apparently.
I don’t speak Japanese, so I ran “Tetsuo Urata” through Google Translate.
Evidently “Tetsuo Urata” is Japanese for “Anthony Weiner”.
I have no idea why, but for some reason the song ‘Turning Japanese’ by The Vapors comes to my mind.
ROFL!
We had panty raids back in my old fraternity days. Lot of women had nasty skidmarks
The worst ones we thumbtacked up on the wall Hall of fame
The sorority girls would stop over the next day to retrieve their panties but the stained ones were never claimed
Just sayin', not a bad price...

I believe him innocent, he was just trying to obtain stock for a small second hand clothing charity shop!(sarc.)
Police in the nearby city of Oita arrested 40-year-old Toru Adachi in 2019 for stealing 1,100 pairs of underwear, according to the Tokyo Reporter ( Newspaper.) Obviously there is someting wrong with the drinking water in those parts.
Obviously Urata was caught underawares.
I am reminded of the blind Samurai, Zato Ichi who was always getting into trouble for things he did not do.But then he had a sword:
Obviously one should not go to Kyushu without taking plenty of unmentionables and a very sharp sword for the laundromat..
