Doctors suggest we should have waited between doses of Pfizer, Moderna vaccines
ABC 7 ^ | Aug 25, 2021 | Stephanie Sierra

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Pfizer released new data Wednesday indicating vaccine efficacy starts to decline around five to six months after the second dose, not eight months as originally thought.

It's raising questions if the three to four week gap between doses for Pfizer and Moderna was long enough to make the second shot the most effective.

"If this was a slow moving epidemic, you probably wouldn't have seen these three week gaps," said UCSF epidemiologist, Dr. George Rutherford. "You probably would've seen something longer."

"Why is that?" ABC7's Stephanie Sierra asked.

"Because it works better," he said. "If you have a little more space in between, you get over your primary immune reaction and then you're at the point where all your cells are primed and you can get a secondary immune reaction."

Rutherford says if we had a two month waiting period in between the first two doses of Pfizer and Moderna we may be in a little better place, but we will never know for certain.

"Who knows? But we would've tolerated a lot more cases getting that second dose," he said.

Rutherford says he wouldn't be surprised if a longer wait period in between doses will be recommended moving forward. Preliminary data released from Research Square Wednesday, showed a more productive antibody response from Pfizer after an eight to 16 week gap between doses - but the findings aren't yet peer reviewed.

But research from other countries like Canada suggests that the long delay between the two initial doses MAY preclude the need for a booster for most otherwise healthy people. (Immunocompromised may be different story.)

My brother in law got vaccinated in December(With Pfizer) he recently had a blood test done to show if he has any antibodies and it said yes..not sure how much it was just a yes or no blood test. My Mom had her vaccine in March, she got a different antibody blood test done and it showed her antibody number at 960 not sure if that is good or not..the doc said he’s seen people with 20,000

1) Did either veer away from the 3 week gap between doses and wait longer for their 2nd dose? Studies show delaying the 2nd dose as Canada/UK have done creates more immune durability.

2) Did either have Covid? I would imagine those who’ve had Covid have higher counts...

We didn’t know what we were doing, but now we totally know.

Booster shot anyone?

If eggs were bad for you, I would be dead.

I consume around 30 a week.

I consume around 30 a week.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++====

I would too if I ate them every day - do 4-5 at a time, although I do 1 whole egg & the rest just yolks.

That way is tasty. I once whipped a dozen yolks, then you line a muffin sheet with prosciutto, pour in the egg, and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. It’s awesome.

Last I heard Dr’s talk about this was about 2 months ago. Good to see it out there again. My recollection of a recommendation between doeses was 43 days apart.

Wisdom in that post!

The entire mad rush to get this thing into people smelled like a dead whale carcass from a mile away to me.

“ Mistakes were made.”

Unfair. It happened in real time. Give a five year trial period different schedules could have been evaluated properly.

Once the decision to universalize a Phase III trial after 4 months was made, it was inevitable that things normally found in Phase III, year 3-4 would come out later.

How you look at this depends on how you regard COVID. “Just the flu bro” people will disparage it. Extinction level event people will praise it.

Me? Meh. As Chou en Lai said in 1965 about the French Revolution, “too soon to tell”.

If you or anyone else is sure about your COVID opinions, there’s a good chance you are going to be proven wrong about some of what you think.

I knew this. I have no idea why they decided on a 3 week gap but it was and is a huge strategic and medical error.

I haven’t gotten my second dose yet as I am planning to space them at least 6 to 8 months apart.

Also, as numerous docs/scientists told us last year....you do NOT attempt to vaccinate OUT of a pandemic.

That is where we should’ve all pushed back, on this, last year. Including to dear Pres Trump, God bless him.

Ever heard of hard boiled egg pudding? It sounds terrible, but it’s absolutely delicious and an easy way to get your protein (great for kids/elderly). Once you make it, it has to get cold ... the ‘eggy’ taste disappears when it’s cold. My biggest problem is not eating it all in one sitting because it’s so good; however, feeling full sneaks up on you & it’s very easy to overeat & be semi-miserable. The serving size is 1/2 cup & it’s best to stick with that for starters.

I dice my hard boiled eggs fairly small first & add very gradually to the blender so I don’t bind it up - the pudding gets very thick.

When we were getting 10 eggs a day from the chickens, this was a delicious way to use them up. :-)
