Liberty University this week switched all classes to online instruction due to increasing COVID-19 cases.
The Virginia university made the change on Monday, just one week after the school year started, according to The Washington Post.
“The campus infection rate is higher than at anytime last year, our only local hospital is reaching capacity for ICU COVID treatment, and we project our Annex quarantine capacity to be reached soon,” officials wrote in a statement on Friday, the Post noted.

How many flu cases this week? Oh, nobody tracks that. How about knee injuries? Concussions? Not being tracked? How many new aids cases this week, how about SARS? Ok, so we’re only tracking one thing and reporting on it daily? Seems like a odd strategy...
IMHO, Liberty University is sending a second signal. They’re saying, “We’re not worried about losing students by shifting to online only for a while like y’all loser woke universities are worried about. Our product sells itself even in an online only environment.”
All due to rise in “cases”? Each “case” (most not likely even feeling ill) is a gift of natural immunity to that person. It’s like they’re trying to stop the wind. Let herd immunity at Liberty arrive!
The Campus isn’t shut down. They just switched to online classes for two weeks because the small local hospital is full.
Liberty’s Football game is going to be held as normal on September 4th (25K seat stadium).
They still aren’t mandating any vaccines or masks.
Oh stop., it’s a hoax. Many here have said as much.
“We keep doing the same crap that did not work last year. Shut it down is the answer to everything these days. Nobody can make their own choices.”
Only in your mind does that world exist...
How many deaths under 30 are there?
Those that can't do, teach. Seems appropriate.
For higher education, this is largely a liability. Some kid gets COVID and some parents may think of suing.
Frankly, there is nothing wrong with classes by ZOOM or Skype or whatever. As long as it is mostly lecture and Q&A, this can be done remotely with no loss of education. If your point of college was about hookups and beer bashes, I doubt Liberty is the college for you. If your reason for college was to earn a MRS degree, this could really hamper your efforts though.
Most of these kids will learn just fine remotely if they’ll only TURN OFF THEIR PHONES and focus on what’s presented in class.

I think that the same reasoning should apply to a Christian University that (in my opinion) applies to a Christian church: I want to go to a church (university) that trusts God more than it fears the virus.
Thank you for the explanation, that is my understanding as well.
By the way, Liberty has had an online program for a long time and it is decent. My son is in his Junior year now at LUO
I have a student in college. Students largely would rather have a vaccine and/or mask mandates (not that the latter does much) in college than shutting them down again and moving to online. It’s devastating for college kids when they do that—I know many kids that age. Most of them would much rather wear masks or get the vaccine than endure more “distance learning.” Liberty University made the wrong call here and it’s too bad.
I know college students who would rather take online courses than the shots and masks.
Unfortunately, many classes and programs are not offered online.
Several will just drop out if can’t get exemptions.
“We keep doing the same crap that did not work last year.”
I could be wrong, but I don’t think Liberty shut down in 2020. (IIRC)
Young people can spread natural immunity while suffering minimal or no symptoms.
That university used to be a rock, but they have bought into all the Deep State propaganda now, like the supposed “COVID variants” that nobody has isolated.
I’m happy to hear the latter. I was afraid they had gone full cultural Marxism.
This is a lie. My daughter is at Liberty right now and is attending classes in the classrooms. There has been a rise in C19 positive tests, but this is still from the hugely flawed PCR test which will return a positive result for the flu or the common cold.
