American Armageddon
American Greatness ^ | August 11, 2021 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 08/12/2021 10:42:55 AM PDT by Heartlander

Americans are growing angrier by the day in a way different from prior sagebrush revolts such as the 1960s Silent Majority or Tea Party furor of over a decade ago.

The rage at the current status quo this time is not just fueled by conservatives. For the first time in their lives, all Americans of all classes and races are starting to fear a self-created apocalypse that threatens their families’ safety and the American way of life.

The border is not just porous as in the pre-Trump past. It is nonexistent. Some 2 million people may cross illegally in the current fiscal year—with complete impunity.

There is zero effort to stop them. Officials daily hector Americans to get vaccinated and tested for COVID. But they are mute about illegal entrants, some of them infected with the virus.

Have we ever had a president who made no pretense about destroying federal immigration law and asking of Americans what he does not of illegal aliens?

Joe Biden has also conceded that his hold on housing evictions deliberately defied a Supreme Court ruling. He added that he probably did not have the legal authority to ignore the court, but did not really care.

As in the case of demolishing immigration law, the president seems either unaware or proud that he is insidiously dismantling the Constitution.

America has also never quite seen such overt and multifaceted efforts to undermine the foundations of free-market capitalism.

At a time of resurging GDP, low unemployment, and record worker shortages, Biden has announced that renters can continue to avoid paying what they owe their landlords—even after a prior year of such free housing.

In a rebounding economy amid record debt, the government is still sending workers unemployment benefits that are more remunerative than paychecks they would earn if employed...

Elections will not fix this. Waiting for them makes it worse.

The use of every surveillance state resource against the January 6, 2021 protestors is pretty clearly intended to stifle any thought of pushback other than voting. That they feel they can control.

“even after a prior year of such free housing”

It ain’t “free housing” even if you can’t be evicted. You still owe the money, and it will still go on your credit report so you won’t be able to rent or buy housing afterwards until you pay it off...

The Democrats conveniently forgot to tell their soon to be homeless constituents that little nugget.

Consumers can’t get their roofs fixed or their houses painted or the trees trimmed as employers plead to their idle government-subsidized employees to come back to work.

I know it sucks but employers are going to have PAY MORE and get the employees to come back to work. Seems like they ( employers of low skilled labor ) are pretty flush with cash if the can ride turning down work like this for so long....

The USSR came into existence and staggered to a full collapse over a period of roughly seventy-four years, after centuries of monarchy. America's decent into a predominantly socialist economy is taking longer, perhaps eighty-nine years in process to date, because centuries of rugged individualism are in the way. But a similarity remains, when enough people's lives are trashed, change will come. I pray the change is without excessive violence and in accordance with the Constitution.

And, as always on matters such as these, I speak as a solid "C" history major.

America is imploding; it’s long past time to stop pretending otherwise.

Wrong tense on the verb. Fat lady has already sang her tune, but it is a hip hop tune, and sumulcast in Espanol

That’s a regional problem.

In suburban/metro areas, there was little relative job loss among white-collar employees; most were sent home to continue their usual work remotely. This exodus facilitated those who COULD not do their work remotely being able to come to a now-depopulated workplace to continue their jobs with social distance regarded as safe.

This continued work, continued peoples’ income, and continued their ability to contract labor. The landscape guys still show up to mow and blow, just like clockwork, and they get paid.

Working from their homes put people in position to have contractors come to their homes and interact in real time to get the necessary direction to handle desired repairs and upgrades. Prospective projects that weren’t easily scheduled and accomplished around a 5-day commuting schedule became immediately feasible when the “commute” shrank to 50ft. My family are some of those people. We’ve contracted out thousands of dollars in home upgrades and repairs during this “shutdown,” and there are more things to get done.

ALL of the General Contractors that I know that are of good reputation are BOOKED SOLID, and their subs are hopping, as well.

Soon to come - an executive order to end racism in credit reporting by disallowing consideration of actual payment history, which has been proven to disproportionately effect minorities and women. /s
