Emmy-winning U.S. actor Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and described her condition as a "tough road."

"A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It's been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition. It's been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going," she said in a tweet on Tuesday....

Just watched “Anchorman” last night with Will Ferrell and Applegate. She’s terrific!

Man, she just can’t catch a break. She already had to have a double mastectomy back in 2008. Now this.

A friend of mine and my husband’s was diagnosed with MS.

She is a pilot, recently retired and was going downhill fast so far as her symptoms. She did some research. And more research. And went to a specialist in another state who diagnosed her with Lyme disease after many tests.

She went on a several month antibiotic and every single symptom has been reversed and she is 100% back to who she was before all of this hit her.

She’s asking for “privacy”. Why did she tell anyone to begin with?

Maybe it’s to keep the leeching media away.

Curious - what's your point here?

Wow. Great story. Good that she got a second opinion.

Because that way what gets out is HER story - not what the media makes up. Telling people that you have a certain diagnosis and asking for privacy (e.g., please stay away Paparazzi) are not mutually exclusive.

There is a lot of evidence that Lyme disease was created at the Plum Island research facility.

Sound familiar?

There are a lot of people in Hollywood who are in the business of outing the personal news of celebrities. Often, they'll demand a bribe to keep the lid on something. There's also people, a nurse for example, who would've been privileged to Applegate's condition and would have no problem selling tips to entertainment reporters.

She was diagnosed some time ago and might've figured the news was going to come out so she should just let it come out herself.

Lymes is nasty business .... getting the right diagnosis can be really hard. My niece worked for a woman who was pretty much bedridden ... took 10 years & she was finally diagnosed with Lymes. She had antibiotics to the heart via a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC line). Last I heard, she was much improved and doing ok.

A guy at church was having leg issues - avid skier & the docs said it was his back, maybe from a fall on the slopes, so he had back surgery. Next, they said it was MS & he continued to decline - we watched him go from walking with a cane, to a walker, to a wheelchair, probably in the space of a year. Turned out it was ALS .... he died within 2-3 years of diagnosis ... mid-30’s.
