Queen’s Brian May called anti-vaxxers “fruitcakes” in a new wide-ranging interview.
The guitarist and astrophysicist offered that criticism to The Independent. He reportedly shook his head upon the journalist’s mention of artists like Eric Clapton questioning vaccine safety and refusing to play concerts with strict COVID-19 protocols.
“I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from me in many ways,” May said. “He's a person who thinks it’s OK to shoot animals for fun, so we have our disagreements, but I would never stop respecting the man. Anti-vax people, I’m sorry, I think they’re fruitcakes. There’s plenty of evidence to show that vaccination helps. On the whole they’ve been very safe. There’s always going to be some side effect in any drug you take, but to go around saying vaccines are a plot to kill you, I’m sorry, that goes in the fruitcake jar for me.”
May also lambasted British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, saying his “bad decisions” in handling the pandemic led to “hundreds, if not thousands” of deaths. “I think it would have been impossible for anyone to make worse decisions than Boris,” he said. “At every point he did too little, too late. … If he’d taken the precautions of shutting down the borders a year earlier, we wouldn’t have been in the situation we were.”
On a lighter note, May recently noted in a separate interview that he’s still amused by a Queen-related joke from the 1990 fantasy novel Good Omens. “I love that quote about every CD that stays in a car for more than a year turns into Queen’s Greatest Hits,” he said. “I should know where that comes from, but it makes me laugh. It is great – I mean, it’s the ultimate compliment for an artist, really, I think, to be sown into people’s lives to that extent.
You got to believe Brian May when it comes to fruitcakes including their new lead singer Adam Lambert.
However, you don’t have to agree with a word he says ever.
Imagine Hitler playing like Jimmy Hendrix?
Doesn’t matter.
Remaining members of Queen are the biggest money grabbers that can’t hang it up. Freddie Mercury supposedly said as he was dying in relation to what the remaining members could do with their music “Do whatever you want as long as it is not boring”. What is more boring than selling dog food and weight loss?
There is mo replacing Freddie. Just hang it up already.
Moral superiority and musical talent are mutually exclusive.
I have always been a big fan of Eric Clapner.
Well, Mr. May, you are entitled to your opinion, as am I. My opinion is, you have little clue of what you speak. My further opinion is, go back to astrophysics and music.
I dont know if kevin cronin was copying Freddie or the other way around..but freddie did it better. Cronin has covid and decrying people who wont get the shot
I was shocked when i heard this guy is straight

Not giving a shit what Brits say since 1776.
I already turn the station whenever a queen tune comes on. Now I guess I’ll have to toss the whole radio...
I’ve heard Eric Clapner, … I think it was a wonderful thing that Eric Clapner the musician did… So I think that’s the wonderful part about it, but listen – I like Eric Clapner! — Joycelyn Elders
Once upon a time, Brian was a Tory. He’s drifted considerably left in his advanced years.
I remember a Queen concert in a place where they hadn’t played since Sheer Heart Attack — a show where they destroyed the headliner .. now 5 years later, promoting News of the World in the US under the weight of Freddie’s since-revealed f@ggotry ... they were rather soundly rejected by a red-state crowd ... they were pelted with beers throughout the set, one of which missed Freddie and hit May’s guitar ... a set they cut short .. but not before Professor May swore they would never be back, and they haven’t played within 200 miles since ... FUBM ... FUFM ... FUQ
Mr. May, if you think CoupFlu was ever about public health, you’re not as smart as you think you are.
Clap for carers!
Note to May: With pols like that, I'd say paranoia is bloody well justified.
Bureaucrats and pols...
Any word yet on where Cher stands on this issue?
UCR is on a mission.
Glorifying May.
Digging up dirt on Clapton.
Did he opine to Freddie Mercury about what he should do in relation to health? How about Freddie's replacement, Adam Lambert?
Brian May has a great ear for great guitar sound.
His view on the dangers of the vax, past, present and inevitable future, not so much.
