Luke Drexler and Jayden Schlegel/WCSO Facebook Share Icon Twitter Share Icon Email Share Icon WALTON COUNTY, Fla. -- Two juveniles are now facing felony charges in Walton County for an incident in early July involving a BB gun shot from a moving vehicle.

Jayden Schlegel, 16, was initially charged with battery and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon (misdemeanors). He now faces felony charges of aggravated battery and firing a missile into an occupied vehicle.

Luke Drexler, 17, faces felony charges of principle to aggravated battery and principle to firing a missile into an occupied vehicle.

The incident happened on July 12. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of a truck driving along 30A with a passenger shooting pedestrians at random with a BB gun.

"In one instance, deputies responded to Quincy Circle in reference to a 17-year-old with an injury to the arm," deputies say in a release. "A person of interest was developed through witnesses and an arrest [of Schlegel] was made early the following morning in reference to the 17-year-old victim."

In addition to the first victim, deputies were also made aware of a 15-year-old victim who suffered a significant injury to his eye and was transported to Sacred Heart in Pensacola. He was ultimately transferred to Gainesville to undergo surgery.

"After a lengthy investigation, WCSO Criminal Investigation Bureau was able to tie Schlegel and Luke Drexler to this incident," the release states.

Deputies say Drexler was the driver of the vehicle.

Both teens were arrested on the felony charges on Friday.

I have no problem with the charges. I was shot with a BB gun twice as a child. The one time I was riding along on my bike and it struck my arm. I crashed. Hurt like hell for a month, both the BB wound and the crash injuries. BB shots hurt like hell and if its unexpected and they are shooting your car it can cause a crash even kill people. Its a toy when you are pointing it at a can. Its not a toy when you are shooting at cars or unsuspecting people. Same as a baseball bat.

Looks like two brats who each need an eye shot out.

Especially since they did exactly that to a 15 year old.

For those who don’t know, 30A is the beachside road where all the wealthier people and tourists are. Condos, gated communities, swank stores and tourist restaurants..............

Florida laws are generally written that way to include ALL possibilities. Even a ‘skateboard’ is a ‘vehicle’................

....”Luke Drexler, 17, faces felony charges of principle to aggravated battery and principle to firing a missile into an occupied vehicle.” ......ahhhhhh, that old “principal” versus “principle” hurdle that no one of the current generation can seem to overcome......don’t they teach proper grammar in today’s J-schools....?? Nonetheless, Drexler is a “principal” a**hole and should probably be horse-whipped......

My cousin and I kept BB and pellet guns at our school bus stop. We’d alternate wearing a heavy jacket and take turns shooting each other. I always wanted to keep the pumps low on the gun, but he wanted to go all out on it. Stupid kids....

Thats not what is happening here. These guys are in High School riding around in a car shooting at cars and people. A toy can turn into a weapon. Just because its a toy does not make it less of a crime. A skate board is used to knock out people buy BLM. Gangs use Baseball bats all the time. They are toys that become weapons. Its a crime.

If you are shot in the butt while playing with your friends thats ok. That is not what is happening here.

Certainly they should be punished, but a felony charge seems too much.
