HOUSTON, TX—Portfolio diversification: It’s a basic principle of investing. Unfortunately, many Christians believe they’re supposed to put all their treasure in Heaven, which simply is not smart investing. Pastor Joel Osteen, though, is promoting a stronger portfolio.
“Treasure in Heaven is pretty good, because there rust and moths can’t get it and thieves can’t steal it,” Osteen said. “But there’s a big disadvantage to that treasure: You can’t exchange it for a Ferrari or a mansion—not an earthly one, at least, like I got, and it is glorious.”
Osteen wants Christians to remember that eternity is a while away (hopefully), and you can’t just put all your eggs in that basket. “You have to live your best life now, and that means you need your treasures closer—nothing's more illiquid than a mutual fund. If you put your treasures in Heaven, that’s even harder to get into than a 401(k).”
Osteen also reminded people of the Bible verse “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
“I like to keep my heart near my 17,000 square foot mansion and my V12 engine, because those are awesome,” Osteen said.
I started reading this without looking at the source, and thought it sounded about right for Osteen.
It does have that feeling. So, I know what you mean.
It must be religion day at the Bee. The way things are going, I would short heaven and go long on hell. That’s called hedging for you investment neophytes.
LOL!
My evangelical brother told me a few weeks ago that Osteen does have some sound teaching. “What?!!!!”
Joel should put all his “earthly treasures” in his wife’s name. That way he can disclaim biblical dishonesty.
I think the operative word your BIL used was “Some”
Just not most
“Some” is even pushing it. But his heresy far outstrips anything good he teaches.
Same here i got to the last line about keeping your treasure closer and only when he mentioned the v12 engine and 12k sq ft mansion, did i realize it must be the Babylon Bee
Tell him you doubt he has even listened to Joel Osteen. He is a positive motivational feel good speaker and that is about it.
It was t too long ago that the Bee had Pelosi wanting to address people using treasure in heaven as a tax haven.
All he’s doing is leading blind sheep to hell.
Maybe your brother is headed there with them?
If you want to see what a man truely treasures, look at what he spends his money on.
Joel Osteen is awesome.
His message is powerful and inspirational.
Every time I hear him speak, I walk away with a positive view of my future in Christ.
So please, every single Osteen basher FO.
Look in the mirror and ask yourself why you hate a man that preaches the gospel with passion?
Mind blowing.
Does he have to live in a dirt hut to make him legit?
My brother works for a giant multi-national corporation, and so he has had to drink the leftist “diversity” koolaid. I’m sure some of it has had an effect on him.
LOL!~!! Is this parody?
Now THAT wins Post of the Day! Kudos!
No.
I’m not a groupthinker and this thread has groupthink written all over it.
You have your opinion and I’ll have mine.
This isn’t DU.
It has to be!
