The Undergrad Who Found China's Nuclear Arsenal

A couple of weeks ago, word arrived that 120 new missile silos had been discovered in the desert of Northern China. While the press made much of this evidence that China is busy expanding its nuclear weapons program, they did not look at who found the silos and how he did it.

As it happens, the silos were spotted by Decker Eveleth, an undergrad at Reed College. He spent weeks poking around on satellite imagery until he happened upon the silos’ distinctive inflatable dome coverings. (Which, in turn, has led some people to describe them as “bouncy houses of death.”)

In what I believe is his only interview about the incident, Eveleth told me about his process, and we covered it here in a larger story about all the goings on in the private space industry and what is now possible in Low Earth Orbit.

Some things are best not to be talked about in public. You don’t inform your poker opponent what his tell is. Similarly, you don’t inform your foreign adversaries how you recognized their actions.

The only thing you can infer is that these could be decoys, or maybe not

Alternatively it could be read in a different way: China spent a heap of money and time building these silos way out in the desert where they thought they wouldn't be noticed, and some college kid was able to spot them with his google machine in his spare time. Nobody in any western government has to burn a source or method and admit to knowing the same information from spy satellite or other clandestine info and China looks a little bit stupid for a news cycle. On the minus side, the Chicoms have a lot of people to throw at trying to make this college kid's life miserable and no reason not to try.

I would hope to believe that we knew where Chinese nukes are.

The higher up muckity-mucks at the Pentagon are too busy with Critical Race Theory, trannies in the military, and bashing Donald Trump to find them.

The CIA missed this important development?

Or they didn’t.

We’ll never know.

If the CIA knew they wouldn’t publish the fact that they knew.

They would pass the info on to the DOD who would monitor the site and target it with our nukes.

Now that the Chinese know that we know the will be much more careful and start building another site which they will be much more careful about building.

These damn well COULD BE dummy sites.. Maybe they ARE inflated, lol.. There could be a few dummy Chinese nuke sites elsewhere too, just as WE probably have as well.

There's no way we could know if our intel community knew about this or not as this info would be classified TS.

Re hidden Communist military installations, launch facilities, nuclear labs, etc.

In 1972 and 1974, former Soviet Red Army WW2 veteran and contracting officer with the KGB for military production, Avram Shifrin, told the Sen. Internal Security Subcommittee, Sen. Jud. Com, and later the House Committee on Banking & Currency, about hidden Soviet “aerodomes”, military production facilities hidden amongst normal manufacturing facilities, etc.

He said that some “aerodomes” were hidden UNDER the tundra in Siberia so that US satellites couldn’t see them or detect them (including, if I recall correctly, exhaust systems.

Either Avram or another defector told congress about hidden Soviet mobile missiles/sites in the forests of Siberia where satellite photos would only show trees.

One way we discovered hidden Soviet “sites” (perhaps in caves, underground in forests, etc. was when satellite photos showed truck tracks going into a wooded area but not coming out anywhere. Hmm, that’s not the way roads work.

Slave laborers and scientists/engineers also told of secret projects that they had worked on, including how the Mosocw subway system was built to survive nuclear weapons (verified by the late Prof. Leon Goure’, Un. of Florida, who actually went into that subway system as far as he could go and match up what he saw with what subway construction engineers told him were nuclear weapons survival construction protection and air-systems.

Goure also found some of these air support systems intake pipes scattered around Moscow woods/forests, etc.

Today, our satellites can see much more in different lights of the spectrum, plus detect radiation, heat exhaust systems, etc.

However, there is nothing like a knowledgeable defector to pinpoint these sites and what they are. You should try talking to one. I did, on several occasions. Be surprised what they know.

When you navigate to that position, if you go a bit more south, you can actually see the blades of the wind turbine.

I would not be surprised if Google were helping the Chicoms hide the silos.

Goog Earth regularly hides personal information from public view. Simple things like license plates all the way to entire buildings.

If they do it for the US government, why think that (as the company becomes ever more anti-American) that they wouldn’t do it for any and all governments across the world?

Especially governments that they admire and respect ...

There is some sort of facility to the left of that. And a bunch of really strange Square earth works just to the right of those coordinates. And those look ancient with no roads running to them.

It also looks like there are ancient hand dug wells all around these earthworks and an ancient canal. Thank you for sharing those coordinates, the earthworks have me very intrigued because I am into Satellite Archeology as a hobby.

But I think they gave out bogus coordinates. They do this a lot in archeology to protect sites from looters and is common.
