Who is most likely to develop severe COVID-19 even after a second jab?
Jerusalem Post ^ | 14 Jul 2021 | MAAYAN JAFFE-HOFFMAN

Older individuals with many underlying medical conditions and immunosuppression are more likely to contract coronavirus and would develop a severe case of COVID-19 even after being fully vaccinated, according to a world-first study conducted in Israel....

.....some 35% of patients had no detectable antibodies – meaning they had failed to mount an immune response to the vaccine.

The median time that elapsed from the second dose to hospitalization was 40 days...

For P and M: vaccinated is one shot of two. Fully vaccinated is two shots plus 14 days. (for immunity to reach peak)

For the J&J shot, partly vaccinated is day 1 of the shot; fully vaccinated is plus 14 days

partly preggers fund PP; fully preggers fund maternity wards

I’m not a doctor, just married to one. Vaccines and the elderly always was and still remains a tricky combination.
The elderly virtually always have a less successful immune response to vaccines generally. And, I believe some elderly patient are still steered away from certain kinds of vaccines. Certainly back in the day when attenuated vaccines were more common, it was perhaps a bigger problem than it is now.

Still, I think on balance there have been a number of vaccine therapies developed specifically for the aged over the last decade or two that have really improved the quality of life for this cohort. From shingles vaccine to the pneumonia vaccine, these prophylactic jabs have clearly lengthened the lifespan of some patients and improved the quality of life in many others.

I agree, antibody testing needs to replace testing testing

first, if someone has good levels of antibodies, they won’t need a shot. Great for them. Second, if someone has poor levels of antibodies 15 days post-shot, they need to know that, too, before they accept that pool party invite

Antibodies to the original Covid won’t work against the delta variant as we are seeing. The delta is now the dominant strain. Immunity to delta will require natural immunity to delta (suffering Covid delta variant) or an updated vaccine.

I dunno. When was the last time we mandated a vaccine for everyone over 70 irregardless of existing medical condition? I don’t think there’s a yardstick for that.

According to some on FR, NOBODY develops Election Flu after getting the “vaccine”.

Very clearly NOT TRUE to anyone paying attention. Hopefully, not too many will be gullible enough to believe your nonsense.

Pfizer will start testing its new vaccine designed specifically for delta in August. They are ahead of the pack, as usual.

That’s good to know but with a 64% efficacy rate and an updated vaccine still months away.. we are looking at a potential surge. Time will tell.

ok, one more shot at it

First date picked for ‘no vaccine’. Jan date would reflect the start of vaccination of first responders/ critters jumping line and nursing homes but generally “no vaccine”. May date would be approx two months after vaccination opened for over 65 and June/July would be about two months after vaccination opened for under 65. The 20th of the month was just a random pick.

deaths:
April 20 2020 deaths 1811 7=day rolling average 2241 daily cases 26,228
Jan 20 2021 deaths 4179 7-day rolling average 3027 daily cases 57,617
May 20 2021 deaths 692 7-day rolling average 580 daily cases 30,379
Jun 21 2021 deaths 105 7-day rolling average 318 daily cases 16,274
Jul 15 2021 deaths 262 7-day roling average 265 daily cases 27,577

So the very people most susceptible to Covid are still susceptible following the vaccine. Anyone else beginning to see we have a problem?

Bzzzzz. wrong. No candy for you! The antibodies to Wuhan’s Original Recipe can fight delta. Proof is in the low frequency of breakthrough infections. You are right that Delta is the new dominant (in urban areas iirc), and yes, the vaccine mfgrs are working or have developed an ‘update’ for Delta that will be in the booster shots). Since you got two of three right, you can have one piece of candy :)

“ you can have one piece of candy ”

Oh thank you !!! One is better than none!

What the original vaccine does is prevent severe disease and death from delta. However efficacy for preventing infection or mild/moderate disease (per Israel) is only 62%, which I suspect will be even lower with a larger data set. This number doesn’t give me the confidence to go to a grocery store where people are walking around maskless. Maybe the risk as of right now is low but the delta numbers are rising steadily.

you might find the below interesting. Pfizer is in booster trials, using Israeli numbers of 63% effective in preventing breakthrough to justify a booster, despite those numbers being challenged by 88% effectiveness in Canada, England and Scotland. The request for FDA Emerg authorization is being panned as premature.

NYTIMES Jul 12
With the Delta Variant, Do I Need a Covid Booster Shot?

...the world’s leading vaccine experts... note that all evidence suggests that the Pfizer shots, along with the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, continue to provide strong protection against Covid-19.”

“...While the Pfizer vaccine and others in use in the United States are slightly less effective against the Delta variant, all of them still offer significant protection against serious illness or hospitalization from Covid-19.

“Moderna has said test-tube studies using blood samples from vaccinated people show the vaccine is still highly effective against the Delta variant, which caused only a “modest reduction” in virus-fighting antibodies in the samples. And Johnson & Johnson has released two studies that show its vaccine remains effective against Delta, showing only a small drop in potency.”

Otoh, England will start booster shots in Sep, and intends to poke every living soul over age 49:
