Which U.S. state that started off as one of the original 13 colonies would our Founding Fathers recognize most clearly aligned with their vision of liberty?
If you think none of the 13 states deserve that honor then which states today do?
Perhaps this is not a totally fair question since our society has changed (not all for the better) so much since 1776. I'm sure every U.S. state government today has far more bureaucracy than the Founding Fathers would ever have wanted to see.
But some states are clearly better than others in their governance.
VT wasn’t one of the thirteen colonies.
Not One of them. They’re all Socialist now.
“Not One of them. They’re all Socialist now.”
My error in that I didn’t mean to include South Carolina or any state below the Mason-Dixon Line.
The New England States are Now lost to Socialism.
In 1776 97% of the population lived in rural areas. Almost all of them were self sufficient farmers who were their own boss.
Today only 2% of Americans are farmers. Everyone else is in the constant pursuit of dollars just to survive.
the 2nd paragraph specifically states:
“if you think none of the 13 states deserve that honor then which states today do?”...
florida...
Does West Virginia count?
Probably SC though.

Ah jeez, thanks. Should have remembered that!
Not PA. Philadelphia drags it down.
You must be joking. West Virginia is a giant welfare state.
Indeed. The whole essence of the Left is basically, “I have a vision — a wonderful outcome! I see something ... something that would make so many people happy! Something like ... something like having stay-at-home moms and more babies. Wouldn’t that be great? And all we have to do is establish a Dectatorship of the Proletariat, and a total redistribution of all income, and absolute blind adherence to the Party hierarchy. It would be so simple!!”
I see Conservatives going down that sort of road. I get it. Wave the magic wand. Get a super outcome. Sure. But the price we all end up paying is much too steep.
Government should just do less. Always.
This is the most salient point of this land at the time of the American Revolution.
People could take a stand with little or no concern for "wokism" because at the end of the day, a man could feed his family on a farm; during a difficult time (a crop failure, for example), he could rely on his neighbors, who he would be helping when they faced their own difficulties.
The problem today is that we've all been assimilated into the Borg and are forced to toe the party line for the simple reason that most of us can't provide for ourselves; we need either the salary or the customer base to survive, and we must behave accordingly.
The “Iffy-est” back then was Rhode Island !
Still its !
I mean still is !
The Americans migrated westward towards the center of the country during the 1800s.

Mr. President, have you ever been present at a meeting of the New York legislature?[Hancock shakes his head "No"]
Lewis Morris:
They speak very fast and very loud, and nobody listens to anybody else, with the result that nothing ever gets done.

Florida wasn’t one of the original 13 colonies, but it was British, having been ceded by Spain to Britain at the conclusion of he Third Silesian War in 1763. At the time of the Revolution, a large portion of the small British population in Florida consisted of military personnel and government officials, and they remained loyal to the king.
In 1781, the Spaniards won a major victory over the British at Fort George in Pensacola, but because this battle involved no American troops, it often goes unmentioned in American histories of the war.
