Which U.S. state that started off as one of the original 13 colonies would our Founding Fathers recognize most clearly aligned with their vision of liberty?
If you think none of the 13 states deserve that honor then which states today do?
Perhaps this is not a totally fair question since our society has changed (not all for the better) so much since 1776. I'm sure every U.S. state government today has far more bureaucracy than the Founding Fathers would ever have wanted to see.
But some states are clearly better than others in their governance.
South Carolina.
Probably South Carolina is the only one even close to what the FF intended. All others, but especially NY, NJ, MA, CT, and VA would elicit disappointment, although NY and NJ were always iffy, even back then.
yep, South Carolina of the original 13, Texas of the full 50
In NE, I would say that NH is not the state it used to be (too many people from my state of MA have moved to NH) but I think NH is the best we’ve got up in the NE corner.
I’m not so familiar with the south. I suspect that SC would be seen somewhat favorably.
But, overall, this country has totally lost the concept of “government should just leave me alone”. Almost anywhere you look, you find people saying, “government needs to do even more to help me”. And it’s just never enough, is it?
South Carolina. Glad we just moved here. Lots of patriots!
Georgia starting going downhill when they hosted the Olympics
florida...
Texas of the full 50
but the democrat metro areas in it are really dragging it down
I would say, perhaps New Hampshire is the closest.
Ironic
Five colonies, thirteen states.
PA and SC. Still holding out hope for VA.
Florida?
Not one of the 13.
Spanish and Seminoles at the time.
the democrat metro areas in it are really dragging it down
This is the beginning of the end - signed, WA, OR, CO, and NV.
Yeah, NH the best north of the Carolinas, but that is not saying much at all. Vermont, only on guns.
But across the country, too many Freepers still taken in by the Deep State fakers on the supposed right. Exhibit A this week is Bannon, with Kassam and Cortes, this week pushing a grotesque redistributionist plan as “conservative” because their survey found a majority of mothers would prefer to be home with their kids, so they want to squeeze taxpayers to pay gazillions to fund stay-at-home moms and more babies. Do we think that was in the vision of any of our founders?
Very poor confusing title. Only 5 original colonies is how it should be stated.
don’t forget that the people who lived in what are now Maine, West Virginia, and Kentucky were full blown citizens of one of the 13 colonies. They didn’t know that at some future time the state they lived in would be split up.
The original 13 colonies are now represented by 16 state governments.
NO.
From my travels up and down the coast, the country/rural Americans certainly have the spirit. The cities are unrecognizable to any Founding besides historic buildings and museums. Collectively states have been a disgrace to our founding.
