Interesting headline. I’ve long been under the impression that Latin America is losing the battle against just about everything.
The mass vaccination campaign in Chile seems to be yielding some success. The number of cases and deaths has been declining there since early June.
They have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world. 65% have got their first shot and 54% are fully vaccinated.
The main downside is that they’re using the Chinese Sinovac vaccine. Sinovac is much less effective at preventing infection than vaccines we’re using here in the USA. It’s rated over 90% effective though at preventing hospitalization or death.

I am not in anyway denying that this disease has not been politicized or wasn’t used for nefarious purposes. It isn’t the black death but is real and it has killed a lot of people (How many? I don’t know since the numbers appear to be manipulated)

As. Hear it directly, places like Brasil and Colombia relied heavily on chicom vaccines. Who knows what the hell the chicoms gave them, but I’ve heard they truly are experiencing a total disaster with covid and the shutdowns.
Reporting FROM Mexico, and posting IN Mexico. Like many other places, people die... they always HAVE died. And loved ones are asked ‘if they want to put Covid’ on the death certificate. It is the ‘trend’, to die of Covid. Miraculously, because we now wear MASKS.. NO ONE has died of Regular Flu, Tuberculosis, Heart Disease, Diabetes or Cirrosis of the liver. So yeah, the SKY IS FALLING. If there was so much DEATH, why is there a housing crisis. Looks like there would be hundreds of empty apartments and abandoned houses. Not like it was when my momma said in 1918 that the black horse drawn hearses, waited in line at cemeteries to bury their dead. THERE IS NO CRISIS.
I think you miss the nuance. Latins are prideful people. They don’t admit they have problems until they’re drowning in them and even then they’re downplayed. The headline is remarkable for its admission.

more on Indonesia. This article blames pre-existings, plus malnutrition and delayed treatment to the point of actively dying, etc as the reason for child deaths. Maybe Brazil’s baby deaths are from similar reasons? Also since most of the children were below 6, maybe younger parents or poor castes relying on cultural remedies?:
