I think the “not understanding jive” joke could be interpreted as making fun of the whites as well as the blacks.

A great black movie from the 1980s was Robert Townshend’s “Hollywood Shuffle”, especially the “Black Acting School” and “Sneaking Into The Movies”.

The most shocking scene was when the young white girl said that she liked her coffee black, like her men. It reminded white males that black males are purported to be well endowed. Or in essence superior. Not racist at all.
My ex wife was a liberal, and I came to the conclusion that she had what I call Perfect Being Syndrome. Liberals, in their minds, are supposed to be good people and perfect in every way. Humor points out the quirks and imperfections we all have. Conservatives understand that we are all imperfect and we can laugh at ourselves and others. Liberals, on the other hand, see it as a personal attack. You are questioning their perfection.
