I tried every trick known to me to speed up my Dell laptop, from defragmenting hard drive to updating drivers. Nothing helped.
I am counting on the thief to not bother carrying out my Dell Optiplex Tower PC. It is too heavy and she will have to disconnect all those cables & wires from the PC before taking it. The laptop I can lose and not be out of business.
Take it from me: unless you have a reliably foolproof reminder system THAT YOU WILL HEED, your good intention to email regularly will quickly become the road-paver to an unpleasant locale.
Or install Linux if you don’t have it yet. “Lowering RAM load and freeing up RAM” is the same as adding more RAM without needing to buy RAM. Or buy anything at all.
From an add I saw on TV at 3:30 in the A.M., I ordered a supply of qubits...
Loaded them onto an old DOS computer and it now runs very very fast...
The only problem is that all the news and info it receives is from 2054...
And it is worse than today’s news...
Same here. Second story to the concrete patio below just doesn’t get it done!
I had all sorts of problems that were the falt of an overworked router. I have too many devices wanting connection
I bought a new matrix system that so far has eliminated the problems.
My problem now is getting my wife’s HP color printer back on the net so I can use it.
I have concluded that precipitating the problem is a new neighbor that has added all kinds of wireless devices that show up as available on the list
Anyway......... the matrix wireless system solved a host of different problems. At the suggestion of my geek son I bought it on Prime day and saved $100
“ I did it by getting rid of McAfee.”

Ah Ha!
I knew McAfee didn’t hang himself.
Feel better getting that off your chest now?
It’s like getting a low-cost upgrade to the PC, itself!
Cost of upgrade from $43 ram memory to $60 for 500gb SSD or total $250 for 8gb ram and 1tb SSD and $10 external enclosure (may need 2).

BOOKbump
Reminds me of getting robbed in college.
Thief moved the $2500 Selectric typewriter off of the $100 broken stereo and stole the stereo.
Do not try 3rd story either. Will just end up with mega hospital bill for broken bones. 4th story with head first dive to a concrete floor will do it quick. j/k
Those are all good links, however I bought this used Dell Laptop for 80 bucks 5 years ago, and I refuse to invest any more money in it. It is now running fast enough for me.
And you don’t need even a Dell brand charger. The cheap clone charger from China working fine so far.
Yes! Sometimes we get lucky and stumble on a cheap fix.
Getting a 500GB SSD (about $60) and cloning the OS to run off that would alone greatly increase speed. And thanks for helping him.
If you don’t know XPS you didn’t buy it. It’s their sports car version.
