I tried every trick known to me to speed up my Dell laptop, from defragmenting hard drive to updating drivers. Nothing helped.

It’s fairly easy to install additional memory in laptops.
Google your model to find out how much memory it can hold.
And run a “System Information” from the start menu to see how much memory it has.

You can find how to instructions and videos on web for your model.

And you can buy an external keyboard with a keypad from walmart and plug it in.

Personally I think that was a little extreme just to speed up your computer. But I guess it’s okay.

If it is an XPS 17 there is a problem. Bad design. Even with a 100 percent working power adapter it cannot give enough juice for the top end cup and gpu. As a result, it throttles the cpu is you are doing gpu intensive stuff.

Dells fix is a motherboard swap that permantly slows the cpu.

This is their top end laptop. Not good.

I don’t use the cloud, but I do email critical files to myself every two weeks. They’re stored offsite, safe from fire, theft, and malfunction, as long as I remember my email u/n & p/w.

Based on boot up time, time to bring up browser, and response times during my playing bridge on BBO web site, I am feeling a 3 times faster PC.

Not a bad idea. I have all my important data (most important being the backups of favorites) always backed up on a USB stick and in case of disastrous situation, I can grab my wallet, my glasses, the USB stick and the 9mm and make a run for it LOL.

I know that I date myself but I am beyond caring and enjoying my memories of them DOS Days! What I recall is that there was a series of computer cartoons featuring animals and these common DOS prompts. Obviously this "Hit any key ..." was one and another fave was a ¿bear? giving a heartfelt answer to "Please enter your response". That was a fist through the Monitor (CRT) with miscellaneous parts flying out the back! Two of a series of an unknown number by a very good cartoonist!

Then disaster! I will start emailing my favorites file to myself. I can always buy a new PC and load the favorites in the browser and am back in business.
