My Dell laptop is running blazing fast again!

I tried every trick known to me to speed up my Dell laptop, from defragmenting hard drive to updating drivers. Nothing helped.

Next, ran diagnostic tests of hardware. (restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics) I let it run a basic test and also run a extended / thorough tests on the hard drive and the RAM modules and all other hardware components.
All passed the test except the battery was flagged as marginal. I noticed the battery was not getting charged much even with the charger plugged in. So looked for a substitute charger on eBay and it was not expensive, so ordered it.
Guess what, the laptop is running fast like it was when brand new. Researching more on this, I found out the Intel processor automatically cuts down speed when power supply is inadequate. The processor speed with the new charger is 3 times faster than with the old charger!
Hope this might help some others.

My battery setting is half way between Battery saver versus highest performance.

Just a coincidence that “they” finished downloading your hard drive contents at the same time. ;-)

I did it by getting rid of McAfee.

“Intel processor automatically cuts down speed when power supply is inadequate”
Also when it starts to overheat (failed fan, high ambient temp etc..)

This is my surfing the internet PC. I do nothing financial on this one. Microsoft will be wasting its time copying contents.

Super thin Laptops are heavily throttled because of heat, also they disabled a lot of predictive execution because EMF can be hacked.
Thin sucks.

Be careful about using defrag on Solid State drives. It can do unkind things to them.

You need to set your computer to run at maximum while on power and a compromise when only on battery, to give you the most optimal speed for both.
Get a new battery, too. You don’t want problematic lithium batteries to stay lying around.

Very good basic diagnosis and correction, available o every Dell user. Really, what you dd was ti increase the order within the closed system, which is to diminish the entropy!
This is how the computer repairer/upgrader earns his well-deserved pay for this knowledge. Been at it for years, my FRiend.

I avoid anti-virus programs like the plague. For all my financial transactions I use a separate PC, which only connects to brokers and bank on a very small time basis. Never had an issue on that PC since 1995.

I did it by getting rid of McAfee. I had to do that a few years ago.
The thing was running virus scan constantly and eating up processor time.

This Dell E6420 laptop has the old fashioned rotating hard drive. Running blazing fast now after buying the new battery charger.

Someone at Dell computer should be in prison over that little trick. You are the victim of a company that wants to make sure that you buy their power supply and nobody else’s..
There is absolutely no reason that computer manufacturers need to have hundreds of different power ports within the US.
