My impression of Russian ships is they are much more heavily armed than comparable US ships. I estimate they have traded arms for range. Several of their ship classes are very short ranged and are obviously a coastal defense fleet. Their smaller ships have a range estimated at 200 miles.

Russia is doing the exact same thing as we do in the Black Sea. They sail close to our territory as we do theirs. We do this in all seas and oceans as do they.

Surface ships can be seen and killed, theirs and ours. What you really need to worry about are submarines with ICBMs. They are hard to find, hard to see, and hard to kill. One Boomer Sub can destroy any nation on earth as a functional society. They are the ultimate weapon of war.

A signal intelligence ship makes sense, but a guided missile cruiser a couple of destroyers and other smaller ships seems a bit of overkill unless Vlad is showing he can send out a blue water squadron in the pacific.
