HYMN No.365
This is a hoot, but I suspect the minister didn't appreciate it.
A minister was completing a temperance sermon. With great emphasis he said, 'If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.'
With even greater emphasis he said, 'And if I had All the wine in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.'
And then finally, shaking his fist in the air, he said, 'And if I had all the Gin in the world, I'd take it and pour it into the river.'
Sermon complete, he sat down..
The hymn-leader stood very cautiously and announced with a smile, nearly laughing, 'For our closing hymn, let us sing Hymn No.365, 'Shall We Gather at the River.'
Good one !
That’s great, thank you for sharing!
Haha! Funny! Thanks for the laugh! ðŸ¤
Should be very entertaining. 8>)
I knew where it was going and still snickered when I read it.
At my church, we have a weekly communion service where we remember the Lord. There is no plan, no preacher etc. (That comes afterward.
Men in the church will read a scripture and maybe expound on it for a couple minutes. Others will call out a hymn.
We have two hymnbooks. One is black and is referred to as the Black book. The other is a reddish brown color. Some refer to it as the Brown songbook, other call it the Red book.
Apparently, many years ago, the had a different hymnbook that had a Red cover and some, out of habit just use Red to describe the reddish brown one.
A couple years ago, a man called out for us to sing hymn ### “from the Hymnbook Formerly Known as Red”
He got the expected heavy laughter
Lol!
