These days, pretty well anything you dream up could be added to a pizza before making its way to the oven. But, there are just some pizza toppings that are a bit more controversial than your plain cheese, and we decided to figure out why. These are the most controversial pizza toppings, explained.
If there was any controversial pizza topping to start this list with, it's definitely pineapple. Seriously, people have been arguing about this sweet topping option for decades.
Putting pineapple on pizza dates back to 1962, with an experiment at a pizza joint in Ontario, Canada. Somehow, the experiment worked. People loved the combination of sweet pineapple and savory ham, and the Hawaiian Pizza was born. It became so popular that basically every pizza chain has their own version now, but not everyone is cool with it.
Some people seem to think that pineapple is the most atrocious option for a pizza, and pineapple-haters are diehard advocates for leaving it off their pie. It's become so heated that the President of Iceland once publicly declared his opposition, and there are stories of pizza makers refusing to put the topping on for customers. This is one pizza topping battle that seems destined to go on forever.

Pineapple (with Canadian Bacon) = Good
Spinach (especially with mushrooms) = Good
I was on a business trip in California and was taken out to a ritzy Pizzeria. One of the pizzas served was arugala, goat cheese, and grapes.
I would advise to not order that combo.
Anchovies are far more controversial. Dead fish on a pizza? Fruit on a pizza is not controversial at all. Tomatoes and peppers are fruits.
Nothing like an eggplant/squid/mayonnaise pizza
From my television viewing the artsy fartsy foodie types are now putting arugula on pizza.
Is nothing safe from that vile weed?
Yuck - you keep your nasty pineapple and spinach.
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy.
Tomatoes are warm-weather vegetables
Ham and pineapple is quite good, you need to learn to acquire some taste, and keep your crap opinions about Hawaiian pizza to yourself!
A well done wood oven baked margarita pizza is pretty decent too.
Fried eggplant is good on a pizza.
And olives.
Canadian bacon and pineapple pizza is my absolute favorite. I’ll never understand why there are so many haters out there.
In the Philippines, they love all kinds of seafood on their pizzas- squid, eel, sardines, surimi...
I do enjoy a good cheeseburger or taco pizza!
dont forget the shrimp
More than ever, people in America have bad taste!
Spinach, olives and Feta - ‘Greek pizza.’
Of course I just like meat on my pizza.
