LANSING, Wis. (WMTV) - Millions of people in Michigan could see a big hike in their electric bill this summertime afternoons.
With the summer months heating up, one of the largest utility companies in the state plans to increase drastically the cost of electricity, starting Tuesday.
From then until September 30, Consumers Energy will charge its customers a 50 percent higher rate between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. According to the company’s website, it has more than 6.5 million customers in Michigan.
When announcing the rate spike, Consumers’ spokesperson Brian Wheeler explained the move is intended to make sure everyone has power during those times.
“You have to build more power plants to accommodate those peaks, those increases when it comes to energy usage,” Wheeler said in April.
Consumers sent letters to customers detailing the increase and telling them how much more it would cost them if they did not change how much power they used. In most cases, Wheeler claimed customers would end up paying about $2 more per month.
The letter also asked them to consider running their dishwasher later in the day or raising the thermostat a couple of degrees to save on electricity.
I guess Michigan didn't kill off enough Old Folks with the CovidBS-19. Now they're scaring them into turning off the AC during the hottest part of the day!
Brilliant. Just brilliant. *Rolleyes*
Ah, more good news from the party of “science”.
I guess people cannot charge their cars to drive home.
Get solar panels
Good. Enjoy the communist paradise MI.
Jimmah Carter is back.
They could just Unmothball the power plants they shut down except . . . . Climate Change. Nah, let’s charge 50% more and throw in some rolling brownouts and mumble something about windmills and solar panels.
Biden prosperity and wonderfulness,
We can all expect to see lots of this very soon. The increases in operating expenses will most assuredly be passed on. I’m trying to buy a metal storage building for some equipment and an aluminum trailer to tow the equipment on. Every ad or quote now comes with a disclaimer stating that “if” they had the item today, that’s the cost. However, they don’t have the item, don’t know when they’ll get it and the price will reflect the current prices of steel and aluminum, God only knows how much, upon delivery date. I didn’t know we had a shortage of aluminum and steel until I tried to buy some!
When I was stationed in England during the 1970s the electricity cost during the day was WAY higher than at night. Of course, we didn’t have or need air conditioning.
Our year round costs average $0.38 per kWh in
Democrat Party ruled Hawaii.
You guys aren’t even close to that cost, yet.
I live in Michigan. On top of Consumer increases we have to replace all the lead pipes at the expense of taxpayers. Michigan ordered it and never gave any money to the towns, cities to replace the pipes. So our town is increasing water rates by 12% annually and sewer at 4%. Then we have the EV car push with our auto factories.
Hopefully America has the same reaction in a Presidential election as they did when Carter was up for re-election.....
I did. But I don't live in Michigan. I live in Sweet Home Alabama where we get lots of sunshine. Since I installed them last month I've produced 88% of the power I consumed.
Let Biden keep raising the price of natural gas by banning more and more fracking wells -- it'll be just a footnote in my budget. To be honest, Trump taking us to exporting natural gas also raised up the price (even though I support that). But I knew that the Dims were making natural gas a dirty word after forcing power co's to shut down "dirty" coal plants and switch to natural gas plants during the Obama years.
Few things have made me feel more libertarian than producing on my own most of the energy I consume.
But, but I was told renewable power was going to be cheaper! And unlimited, too.
I guess people cannot charge their cars to drive home.

Making electric cars even more expensive and inconvenient.
“You have to build more power plants to accommodate those peaks, those increases when it comes to energy usage”
Patriot translation:
“The additional wind-mills and solar panels just can’t keep up. You have to pay more because the New Green Deal is a sham.”
There ain’t no cure for the summertime blues!
PING!
