A year-long process to find the next president of The Evergreen State College came to a shocking conclusion Wednesday when the college’s Board of Trustees emerged from a three-hour meeting and announced that the three finalists for the job had withdrawn their names from consideration.

“We’re still in a state of surprise and disappointment,” she said. “This is where we are at the moment.”

Can anyone list one valid reason why decent, rational people should pay taxes to support this institution?
“The only winning move is... not.to.play.”
In other words, "You will have no authority". Even the most "woke" candidate knows that under these conditions, they will eventually become the target of the ultra-radical student body.
“Evergreen college went ‘Woke’ 20 years ago.”
Evergreen college woke up ‘Woke’ 54 years ago.
“The article provides no details on why the candidates withdrew, but my guess is that the nature of the interviews, along with the “community” feedback, made them realize that they were dealing with psychopaths and they wanted nothing to do with it.”
Not to mention the college is going broke.
Too bad G Gordon Liddy is no longer available.
I nominate Dean Wormer.Thread: Ended.
I haven’t followed any of their insanity in a few years, but I can only imagine how much worse it has gotten now.
I don’t blame anyone for not wanting to touch that mess. No matter what you do, it will be wrong, won’t be enough and if you finally do something right according to them, they will find a new issue to go after.
I nominate Bret Weinstein, the only one at Evergreen to stand up to the mob. He is no longer at Evergreen, but they should bring him back.
I thought this was a “private” school - not getting state nor federal money except for specific grant money for research into specific topics. Still, a HUGE source, but not enough to run everything like staff salaries and buildings and upkeep and janitors.
They should allow the students to take turns running the place. Each member of the student body gets a week or two to do as they please, then on to the next woke teenager. In fact it should be a requirement . . . the way science, literature, Western civ and three semesters of a foreign language used to be.
(The first thing he would have done was to remove the word "The" from the name of the institution...)
I’ll take the job!
*Salary: $450,000 per year with 7% raise per year.
*Benefits: 8 weeks paid vacation, car, housing, $5,000/month expense account, $5K per month to a qualified personal retirement account
*Term: 5 years, $1M severance pay for any cause
*Retirement; 2 years pay even if terminated early.
*Full authority to act without Board approval.
*Sole responsibility for finding, selecting and appointing board members
Under those conditions I will gladly step up to the position
I am waiting there response.
I would consider i
Actually, I don't think that's far off from what the job pays.
/in 1990 Evergreen State College hired Mumia Jamal,
You’re kidding? I was in Philly at the time and am familiar with the case. Years afterward, I read about Europeans who became Mumia supporters. However, they had no idea of the facts, it didn’t matter that a cop was killed in cold blood, and they painted him as an unfairly jailed journalist. No. Irv Homer used to talk about Mumia and Mumia was no journalist. I can’t imagine having this guy speak at a graduation.
it’s the last two items that is paramount.
it’s the last two items that is paramount.
why does a college need a “principal?” Pure equity has no leaders.
One of my nephews went there. Graduated with Noam Chomsky as a hero. Burn it down.
That would be fantastic. Some of those lefty college students could use a good slap.
