NASA satellites have observed a large sunspot forming on the surface of the Sun. The sunspot is twice as wide as Earth and it is facing away from us, for now. However, as Earth moves around the host star, the sunspot could fire a solar flare right at us.
Astronomy site Space Weather said: “A new sunspot is emerging over the sun’s northeastern limb, and it’s a big one.
“The sunspot’s primary core is twice as wide as Earth, and it is accompanied by two Moon-sized companion spots – dimensions which make it an easy target for amateur solar telescopes.
“In recent days it has hurled multiple CMEs into space.
“Future eruptions could be aimed at Earth as the sunspot turns toward us in the days ahead.”

Incoming Kill Shot on Line one
Uh on ... in addition to taxing treasure laid up in heaven the Democrats have announced that they’re gonna levy a tax on magnetism.
Wow...think of the tan lines.
He picked the wrong day to resume sniffing glue.
Maybe I don’t understand the science, but there seems to be something amiss when you add all these statements together.
“it is facing away from us, for now.”
“as Earth moves around the host star, the sunspot could fire a solar flare right at us.”
“Future eruptions could be aimed at Earth as the sunspot turns toward us in the days ahead.”
So, facing away from us, but as the Earth moves around the sun, the sunspot can turn towards us in the days ahead.
Are they meaning 180 days? Because that’s half a year, and it would take that long for the Earth to move around the sun to get to the spot facing away from us.
What am I missing?
“However, as Earth moves around the host star”
Would that be called the Sun?
Well, looks like I need to bump that Farraday Cage project up my Honey-Do list a few notches.
The sun rotates too, about every 27 days.
Sunspots twice the width of the earth are not unusual.
Women and minorities hardest hit???
C’mon, NASA. You’ve been telling us for decades the “science” is “settled.” The Sun has no effect on Earth’s climate. The only variable is CO2 levels. So, nothing to worry about, right?
There it is!
Sun spot crisis! Give up your freedoms and liberties or you die!
Time to implement a Sunspot Tax to fight this!
Also sunspots are notoriously transitory.
It is a good thing everything is running on electricity. s/
Well played.
Call in Dr. pimple popper
What you are missing is that the sun rotates.
