How to get people to talk to one another again? Citizens’ assemblies
The Harvard Gazette ^ | May 5, 2021 | Liz Mineo

In the work that I do, I stress the fact that we’re going to need more and more government coercion as we go forward as a more and more interdependent society. Our structures of democracy, which basically evolved in the 18th century, are not sufficient to carry the load of the government coercion that we now need. We need much more robust democratic mechanisms than what we have. The structure of elections gives you a clear majority that is legitimate, in almost every case, but it’s not sufficient. If we think about climate change and the tremendous burdens we need to take on to reduce global warming, it’s clear that the world is not ready to take on those burdens and that our democracies don’t have the capacity to create legitimate decisions on that scale yet. We need to have supplements to democracy.

She means, how to get people to lecture conservatives and force them to bend to our (Leftwing) will.

Citizen assemblies? That might have been a good idea back in the old days. But it would be very difficult to pull off today. And here’s why:

Old days, liberal to a conservative: “What’s your opinion?”

Today, liberal to a conservative: “Anything you might have to say would probably be hate speech. So just shut up and listen.”

Your stumbling block here is a combination of journalists, agenda people, lobbyists (into the thousands) and stupid college graduates from the past decade who simply never matured beyond juvenile behavior.

We are approaching a point where maybe half of the nation questions capitalism, and believes the government should confiscate wealth and redistribute wealth.

There’s probably five to ten percent of the population who don’t see burning, looting and destruction of society as a bad thing.

Finally, education is not a level-playing field, and some ‘consumers’ have paid $100k of their life (maybe taking 20 years to pay off) for a 3rd world type degree and can’t reason/debate beyond that level of a 12-year old kid.

You don’t say! When I see or hear Mother Government ‘mandating’ something or asking me to do something against my FREE WILL or Religious beliefs, I pretty much turn and run the other way!

But, good luck, Honey. You’re gonna need it, ya Commie.

I live in a small New England town where nothing happens. It’s very Liberal. We have a Town Meeting once or twice a year to decide budget and referendum type stuff. It’s a little like the Norman Rockwell print of “Freedom of Speech” where anyone — even a laborer — can stand up and speak his piece while the rich community leaders look on and absorb the message.

But the reality is different. People don’t know how to be concise. They like the sound of their own voice. They lack logic or presentation skills. They whine. They throw tantrums. They are unreasonable. They think they can get their way by shouting.

It’s not that the mechanism is necessarily wrong. Perhaps, in theory, citizen assemblies are a good idea. But the media and the education system has not prepared people to function in that environment.

The whining Karen’s in youtube videos who won’t shutup and insist that everyone else should “stop interrupting me”? The guys who shout “You’re worse than Hitler!” if your view conflicts with their view? Those people do not deserve additional forums. They can’t handle additional forums.

Right.
We should openly espouse our conservative views so that we can be attacked by the BLM or Antifa or doxed and cancelled.
We need to change the environment we’re debating in before we can open debates.

The Left does not want to talk to the Right. They only want silent obedience and subservience. Not a thing more.

The Right should not want to talk to the Left, ever again. There are no “moderate Democrats”. There are no “center Left Democrats”. There are no “left leaning Libertarians. Why? Because even if one were to describe themselves in any of those categories, they are still going to vote for the Democrat. Always.

It doesn’t matter that the country: was not engaged in any unnecessary military actions anywhere in the world; the country had a fantastic economy; the country was finally turning the corner on the Corona virus nonsense; taxes were low; gas prices were low; the US was exporting oil and energy independent; manufacturing was coming back to the states; foreign owned corporations were setting up shop in the US; the border was getting more and more secure by the day; bogus refugee admissions were down; H1B visas were basically eliminated so AMERICANs in the tech industry could get jobs, keep their jobs and make more money at their jobs; had a supporter of the 2nd Amendment in the White House; that more folks were running and getting elected that actually cared about the country and its citizens rather than donors and the Chamber of Commerce; that blacks and hispanics had some of the lowest unemployment numbers EVER; that, until the riots of last summer, the country appeared to be getting safer and less violent; that the President allowed Governors to Govern, Mayors to Mayor and only offered help, not interference(most of the time showing how utterly incompetent they were); had a President that invited and spoke with ‘actual experts’ on issues to help in making the right decisions, not a bunch of policy wonks with no experience in anything; had a President that actually took the time to meet with regular folks to listen to their concerns; had a President that loved taking on the media and wasn’t afraid to stop in his tracks on the way to Marine 1, take a question and answer it...off the cuff...while systematically taking down the reporter and their agenda; had a President that actually followed the rules and the Constitution.

Absolutely none of that matters to any Democrat, no matter how Center, Moderate or Radical they may be. Because if they vote for the Democrat, they voting for all of that to be GONE, censorship, control, Constitution shredded, 2nd Amendment GONE, wars, violence, high taxes

***sorry for the run-0n. When I try to make a list it combines it all anyway otherwise I have to double space *** hope it makes sense and is fairly easy to read. Or you could all think I’m just full of sh*t, too. So there’s that.

Better logic and rhetoric may be found in local pubs. Maybe that’s why the left would rather see them closed indefinitely.
