A Florida elementary school principal is under investigation for whacking a 6-year-old girl with a paddle in a shocking incident that was captured on video by the student’s mom, according to a local report.
Melissa Carter, head of Central Elementary School in Clewiston, was filmed bending the child over and hitting her several times with the wooden paddle, local outlet WINK-TV reported.
“The hatred with which she hit my daughter, I mean it was a hatred that, really I’ve never hit my daughter like she hit her,” the girl’s mom told the TV station in Spanish. “I had never hit her.”
The mom, who wasn’t named in the report, said she was called by the school on April 13 because her daughter had apparently caused about $50 worth of damage to a computer. She went to the school to pay the fee — but was sent to the principal’s office, where she found her child with Carter and a school clerk.
Then “the principal started to scream,” the tearful mom said.
The parent looked around and got nervous after noticing a lack of surveillance cameras.
So she hid her phone in her purse and decided to record the brutal punishment — fearing that authorities wouldn’t believe her otherwise. “Nobody would have believed me,” the mom told the outlet. “I sacrificed my daughter, so all parents can realize what’s happening in this school.”
She took her daughter to a doctor later that day to document the red marks and bruises caused by the paddle, the report said. “I’m going to get justice for my daughter because if I could not do it in front of her, I’m going to do it with justice,” the woman said.

Absolutely. And gosh society was so out of control back then.
Oh. Wait...
One of the major problems these days is that kids never run
into a “NO” before adulthood.
Thank goodness this mom will have no problem convincing this
child that the adult was wrong and nothing she did was.
Society will have to resolve this kid’s issues after she
turns into an adult.
Some officer will shout stop and will have to shoot her as
as she barrels ahead.
And, as promised, it was always worse when you got home.
School Days, school days Dear old golden rule days Reading and writing' and rithmetic Taught to the tune of the hickory stick You were my queen in calico I was your bashful barefoot beau And you wrote on my slate, "I love you, Joe" When we were a couple of kids
Yes. Every kid needs to have the fear of G_d put in them
They also had large screws in the side for added weight.
The mother gave permission. Obviously.
When I was growing up, the paddle was the rod of correction and the teacher was given in loco parente rights of discipline including swats.
The problem in schools today is that teachers fear the students instead of students fearing their teachers.
If your kid was deliberately misbehaving in school and the school called and requested permission to give your kid a swat, would you deny it. And if you denied it, how would you deal with your out of control child?
Time out?
My bus driver when I was in elementary school (Mrs. Willy - still remember her name) had a wooden yardstick and she wasn’t afraid to use it. She broke it on more that a couple occasions smacking someone back into their seat.
Heck, my 12th grade German teacher threw a textbook across the room and hit a kid on the head. The kid deserved it. It also got caught on video.
The entire class watched the video for the rest of the class laughing loud and hard, including the kid who got tagged.
Parents who truly Hate their Kids send them to Public "School."
When I went to school in TX seeing a kid get paddled by a teacher was a daily occurrence, no big deal. Sometimes it was several kids a day getting paddled in front of the entire class. In Jr. and Sr. High, they took you down to the office to get X number of swats by the Boys Assistant Principal.
I would deal with my own child in my own way. Nobody hits my kid and especially not with a big wooden paddle. That is child abuse.
Better a principal than Joe or Hunter.
Same here. Mr. Meckley, still remember his name after 50 years!..............
In any school I went to where paddling was permitted parental consent was required. The school’s discipline procedures were clearly outlined in handbooks (or in this day, online)and parents could opt their child out of physical punishment and request alternate discipline measures. It was also never to be used as a first resort. So I wonder whether the principal went against school policy.
Visiting a friend at Oriole School, in a nice part of Chicago.
While waiting in the office the principal and assistant principal, both female, were SCREAMING AT A 2-3 grader telling him that he knows English and must speak English!!!
It did not appear that either of them spoke any Spanish.
They probably flogged him after I left.
“the girl’s mom told the TV station in Spanish. “I had never hit her.””
Perhaps if mom did use some DISCIPLINE there would not be a need to spank her in school.
I thought paddling was now prohibited in schools?
Aside from that I’d have grabbed my child out of their hands in a heart beat. If mom has a bone to pick this is not how you go about it.
Oh hell yeah!
Happened to me a number of times as a kid. Not a problem. I deserved it and my parents backed the school. A couple of swats is NOT very harsh!
Not as harsh as I was likely to get at home.
