Forecasters expect the stream to hit Earth on Sunday, May 2, and it could affect Earth's satellite technology.
It has been categorised as a G1 class storm which can lead to “weak power grid fluctuations” and can have a “minor impact on satellite operations”.
Astronomer Tony Phillips wrote on his Space Weather site: "Minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are possible on May 2nd when a stream of solar wind is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field.
While this solar storm is largely is insignificant...the Sun can also release solar flares so powerful that they can cripple Earth's technology.
"The probability of an event of that size happening is estimated by the UK’s Royal Academy of Engineering as one in 10 in any decade."

There is an excellent timeline graphic at Spaceweather.com of major solar storms. Here is an excerpt of the article:
“”The Great Storm of 1770 appears to be a 500-year event,” says Knipp. “There were low-latitude auroras for 9 nights in a row.”
During the 1770 storm, extremely bright red auroras blanketed Japan and parts of China. Captain James Cook himself saw the display from the HMS Endeavour near Timor Island, south of Indonesia. Knipp’s colleague Hisashi Hayakawa (Nagoya University) has found drawings of the instigating sunspot; it is twice the size of the sunspot that caused the infamous Carrington Event of 1859. Knipp’s timeline suggests that this was not “just another Great Storm”; something exceptional happened in 1770 that researchers still don’t fully understand.
Today’s senior space weather researchers were taught in school that Great Storms are rare. The Carrington Event was long thought to be a singular event, alone in the historical record. Recent studies are finding otherwise. “
Please no more Greta. She’s is a freakishly weird looking inbred mongoloid.
Please no. I’m out of bandages.
Re Will I even have time to pass gas? I’ve been doing that for months (due to internal surgery). Perhaps I can counter the incoming sun’s gas.
Might even provide late Spring aurora shows for us. Calling Greta Thuneberg. You are wanted at Launching Pad 1 at Cape Canaveral for an earth-climate saving mission (one way but you’ll be a hero, of sorts, or cinders).
CLICLBAIT
Will it stimulate Uranus?
👍
186,000?
Mr. Sunny popped a zit.
p
Global warming will continue unabated.

Good morning!
Has she reached puberty yet? I heard she recently reached the age of 18, but she still looks like a twelve year-old.
LOL. One of two preeminent threats we face (though not of that caliber from the sun).
The other being ‘silent but deadly’, probably won’t even get a warning despite all the satellites.
The effect upon climate and species of the day that the Earth passes through the cone of a gamma ray burst is rather understudied and one that rattles my scientific brain.
Not as long as she's still a useful idiot.
Looks and acts.
did you ever run across BDA twtter out in the weeds??
in some ways, BDA kinda reminds me of the current stormwatcher account????
iirc, he predicted something along the line of this solar storm was coming.
(he also predicted the TGD breaching which hasn’t come to pass....yet.
