A former investigator no longer works for the New York State Police after an administrative investigation was launched following an alleged theft at the Walmart in Oneida.
Employees at the Walmart claimed 49-year-old William B. Keiffer allegedly stole moisturizer and women’s underwear from the store. The employees called Oneida City Police to report the incident, but later declined to press charges.
Despite not facing charges, New York State Police confirm Keiffer was suspended without pay in mid-April.
Director of public information for state police, Beau Duffy, told NEWSChannel 2 “Investigator Keiffer is no longer employed by the State Police. He was suspended without pay on April 13 and an administrative investigation was opened, but he chose to retire.”

Back in 1981, I worked with a guy in Corrections who got caught shoplifting fishing paraphernalia. He’d been working as an officer for several years. I don’t remember what happened to him because I was a new hack, and you kept your mouth shut, but I do remember other officers who had been there a while joke about it, saying “He got lured into it.” I could never understand why anyone who had a secure job, that paid well, and had good benefits, ever do anything stupid to put that job in jeopardy, especially shoplifting. Made no sense then, and all these years later, it still makes no sense.
I was born and raised in Rochester, but have lived in Rome, New York since around 2000. Been through Oneida many times. I usually take Route 5 to Syracuse when I head to Wegman's in Fayetteville.
It probably speaks well for you that you can’t understand it.
I’ve seen people, even those in authority- like police, who thought nothing of theft.

And while there are plenty of them that do the right thing, there are plenty still who have no problem with arresting people for doing the same things they've done, or are doing. I'm a female, and there were new female recruits who came to Auburn while I was there. One was a young girl who confided in me that she smoked marijuana at home. I told her I couldn't understand how she could bust convicts for doing the same thing she was doing on the outside. She shrugged her shoulders, and said she didn't see a problem with it. Some people have no conscience. My mother did a good job in making sure all her kids had one.
Criminals are found in all vocations regardless of their status or positions in society.
Cool! Then you know Delta Lake Park. I spent many a summer there where my grandma had a little trailer the family enjoyed for days and sometimes weeks at a time :) If only I could go back in time just one day, how lovely it would be.
I wasn't living in Rome when my kids were small...they're in their 50's now. We were living in Utica at the time, but I would drive to Delta Lake State Park, and spend the day there with them during the summers. It was a great place to take the kids for a day.
In his defense, I can never seem to find what I need in the men’s underwear section at Walmart.
