Officials at a South African national park said yesterday that a man who was suspected of being a poacher was killed by a herd elephants on Saturday. The men were running from rangers when they ran into a “breeding herd of elephants.” The men were reportedly attempting to poach rhinoceros. A suspected rhino poacher was killed in an elephant stampede at a South African national park on Saturday, officials said. The man was among three suspected poachers spotted by rangers at Kruger National Park, the parks service said in a Sunday press release. The trio fled when they were seen, and during their escape, ran into a breeding herd of elephants, authorities said.

They eventually caught up with one who said his accomplice had run into a herd of breeding elephants, but he did not know what happened after that.

Rangers went to the spot where the man was last seen and found that he had been "badly trampled," SANParks said.

I suppose if you run headlong into breeding elephants there are worse options than just being trampled to death. Good riddance.

Some Freepers seem to express glee over this man's death.

Perhaps he was just trying to feed his family.

Maybe, his people hunted rhinos for thousands of years and all of a sudden some gubmin paper pusher tells him he can't.

Maybe the rhinos were destroying food crops or becoming aggressive toward people.

Native Americans are allowed to hunt whales and eagles but you do it and you'll be put away for a long time.

Would they feel the same about an Idaho rancher that kills wolves or a grizzly, "illegally" that are killing his animals or endangering his family?
