Michael J. Fox's beloved dog, Gus, has died.
The Back to the Future star, 59, announced the sad news on Monday, sharing a photo of the 12-year-old pooch on his Instagram.
"Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we'll miss you," he wrote in the caption, before referencing several pages from his 2020 memoir, No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality.
In addition to his tribute, Fox also posted numerous photos of himself with Gus throughout the years on his Instagram Stories.

The “after 20 years he still grieves” lyric recognized the love and attachment we develop for our dog(s).
Should have named it shakes
He helped get fetal stem cell research passed in Missouri.
My corgi just turned 12 a couple of weeks ago. He seems pretty healthy, but I start getting uneasy when they reach that age.
I am sorry for his loss. I grieve the loss of my beloved dingo, Tippy. He died in 2004. I still get tears when I think of him.
I have a German Shepherd who will be 12 in October and I know she is nearing the end even though she is perfectly fine today. I have had 7 of these wonderful pets throughout my life and a greater more loyal friend I’ve never had.
I have been with each of them when their time came and it is something you never get used to. I always think it cannot be any worse than the last time but somehow it always is. Still, I would never let them go without being there to hold them in my arms as they slipped away.
My condolences on the loss of Canute.
Gus was a very handsome dog.
Our family has some elderly dogs right now - we know they won’t be around but for so long - 2 that are 12 plus and 2 that are around 10. All are showing age, the 12 year olds are getting rather gray around the muzzle. While the two older ones are getting issues like sight/hearing loss, arthritis, etc., they’re still “happy campers” and eating well.
Our animal friends are kinder/friendlier to us than most human ones. They need our support and provide us love in return (the cats try to not show it but I know how they feel). Their death strikes us harder than some human ones because of the ties they have to us.
“Should have named it shakes.”
That’s really cruel to Fox and Gus. You must have never known the love of a really great dog or be the kind of person who’d say, “Why are you so broken up, it was just a dog.”
Prayers of comfort for Michael J. Fox...

Unless something totally debilitating the hardest part is deciding “when” to make the call.
Didnt see what was wrong wither Guss ?
....dog.
I extend my deepest sympathies to Mr. Fox. It is slightly over a year since I lost my Maine Coon a month shy of her 12th birthday and I still weep for the loss. Despite a nationwide search, I am still waiting for a tortie and white Maine Coon kitten. Eventually, I hope that one will be born to one of the top breeders I am in contact with. Mr. Fox, I totally feel your loss.
My 11yr old Dusty Joe the day I had to take him in and helped guide him over that damn bridge. Cancer got to his spine and paralyzed the back half of his body. You couldn't ask for a gentler 120lb giant to help raise so many grandkids.
I can see the meeting at the MSN news desk...”Should we run the story about millions of crimmigrants storming the souther border? No. Kids in cages? No. High numbers of illegals dispersed throughout the country while testing positive for China virus? No. I got, run the tripe about Alex P. Keaton’s dog dieing. The public will lap that up.”
was it a press release or was it leaked?

I play that song on my guitar almost every morning as a wake-up ritual. Jerry Jeff Walker wrote a great piece of music with that one, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band recorded the best version. Mr. Bojangles, dance for me, worn our shoes and all.
Our pets are beloved family.
