The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for ground turkey products, including Wegmans brand.
The products produced by Plainville Brands are recalled due to concerns they may have caused Salmonellosis.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them.
These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
The raw ground turkey products were produced on December 18, 2020 through December 29, 2020.

Not familiar with the brands. Any idea which states are affected?
The employees would all have name tags. Nothing would be mentioned about them explicitly in the movie, nor any attempt to highlight them.
But those who looked closely would see that the Asst. Manager's name tag was 'E. Coli' and the Manager's was "Sal Monella".
It doesn’t say but the source is a station in Buffalo, looks like.

WHAM is in Rochester. Wegmans is grocery chain based there. The Turkey was private labeled for them by Plainville.
One neat thing about Wegmans is their “shoppers club”. Of course it is to improve sales and marketing, but if you use it, they have a record of everything you buy. If there is a recall and you bought it, they actually contact you directly. At least they have done to me in the past.

They are the finest grocery store in the country and have extremely high standards for quality and customer and employee satisfaction.
Actually, it’s good to know that Wegman’s brand turkey is Plainville.
We have Plainville sliced/pressed turkey in No. Virginia. It is very tasty.
I’m assuming (also checking) that it applies only to “ground” turkey meat and not other forms.
At least the article gave the production date range which is crucial for checking a product.
On their sealed package Hickory Smoked Organic Turkey Breast (sliced) there is no production date, only a USE BY date. This sliced turkey says: Organic Turkey Raised is never ever given antibiotics: Organic Ono-GMO Vegetarian Diet Fed; No Added Growth Hormones; Humanely Raised; Free Range, Gluten Free and Casein Free. FULLY COOKED, Ready To Eat., Distributed by Plainville Brands, LLC, New Oxford, PA. KEEP REFRIGERATED.
I feel safe eating this product. Ground meats can be the problem re Salmonella. Check your ground turkey information label printed out by the store you got it from.

I had to ask because Wegmans and Plainville are names not common in Minnesota, if at all.
Their political contributions are 79% democrat.
Still a good place, but I noticed a bit of a difference since the sale.

Wegmans is a grocery store chain. Not sure how extensive they are but we’ve visited one in Alexandria VA (where our kid is stationed). The store itself is huge. It’s not just a grocery store, but offers a small restaurant, coffee bar and many in-store specialty items.
BUT, their main claim to fame is their huge/really big/extensive line of pre-made meal offerings...all made on-site, I think. Anything from sandwiches, cheeses, salads, meat entrees, side items, bread, dessert. You name it, it’s been made (many pre-cooked), trayed up and covered in plastic wrap....complete with cooking instructions. All you have to do is take it home and pop it in the oven. You can buy their pre-wrapped food items or you can line up along their 3 or 4 long food bars and dish out your own...and then pay by the pound!
We’ve gone by a couple of times to pick up a complete meal while visiting up there. But we don’t go there now because it’s ridiculously expensive. The price was quick to wear the novelty off.
Another thing about it...I just couldn’t shake the feeling that, with all the open-air food and handling...it was a case of salmonella just waiting to happen.
Back in the day, they had that great visitors center where you could go and get lunch. They had a sampler plate of sandwiches so you could try their different deli meats.
It was a favorite place for the kids and me to go when we were out that way, like when we went to Beaver Lake for the afternoon.
We also loved their restaurants and would stop there when we went to eat out. We were very disappointed when they closed them but completely understand why they did.
I went to graduate school in upstate New York in the late 80s/early 90s. There was Wegmans and there was everybody else. Wegmans was head and shoulders above the rest, IGA, etc., and their expansion has forced a lot of other supermarket chains to up their game. I don’t believe their retail employees are unionized, and if they donate to Democrats I’m sure much of it is unfortunately part of doing business, just as Trump did for decades.
Plainville has always prided itself in growing quality turkeys with as little abuse to the animals as possible. They used to let them be free range, but wild birds started infiltrating the farm and bringing disease, so they built large open air pavilions that were just a roof with screened sides so they could still live outside in the fresh air and sunshine.
Not sure why they left NY but probably due to NY’s business friendly climate.
They are a Rochester, NY based family business that has expanded across the north east and down into VA even.
They are most prolific in NY between Buffalo and Syracuse. Their big store in DeWitt is the furthest east one until you get to Boston, where there are a couple sstores.
When my oldest moved to LA, all the NY transplants would would bemoan that there were no Wegman’s. It was the hing they missed the most about NY.
Her CA friends would ask what the big deal was about Wegman’s and she’d tell them to think Trader Joe’s with three times the quality and half the price. (that means something to a millennial)
