@PeterSchiff
When our republic was formed voting was not a right. There is no "right to vote" in the Bill of Rights. Voting was a privilege restricted by age, poll taxes, literacy tests, property ownership, etc. The goal was an informed and responsible electorate, not maximum participation.
@PeterSchiff
The goal of an election is good government. It's better to have a good government elected by a minority, then a bad one elected by a majority. I'd rather not qualify to vote personally and have others elect a good government, then participate in the process of electing a bad one.

Watch liberals go nuts.

Oooohhhhhh.....
You could fish for a long time with the can of worms opened up here.
Still true today!
Agreed. The Founders’ goal was, above all, to limit the powers of government and guarantee the freedoms of the people, and a free civic society.
They knew democracy always eventually becomes mob rule.
There is no “right to vote” in the Bill of Rights
There are NO rights in the Bill of Rights.
Our rights come from God, and from them we can not be alienated.
Most people do not want the Constitution upheld any more.
Even here on Free Republic there is a contingent that opposes restricting the office of President to only those born here of citizen parents, natural born citizens, as the Constitution specifies.
The children of foreigners ARE foreigners, even if born here and are specifically who the founders were excluding.
When the electorate determines they can raid the treasury that is the end of the country.
To “democrats” the idea that everyone should be able to vote means the dementia patients, the alzhiemers patients, the mentally defective, the obvious illiterates, the obvious stupid and uninformed, criminals, illegals and the dead - whomever they can fill in an automatic mail in ballot for.
Not only is voting not a “right”, it is a privilege and a responsibility, not the governments responsibility, yours.
It’s better to have a good government elected by a minority, then a bad one elected by a majority.

Ancient Greece limited voting to property owners over the age of 30
Yes, I think you should have to take a citizenship test - a nice long one that proves you understand what country you’re in, & then prove you pay taxes - either property or income.
They go Nuts when you tell them that only AMERICAN CITIZENS get to Vote in our Elections.
Besides, you can’t GO Nuts if you already ARE Nuts.
Correct
But there is in the CONSTITUTION and its spelled out clearly. Look it up!
I think the liberals use the argument that since there were originally restrictions on voting that are today disgusting and horrifying to all but a few extremist whack jobs(race and gender to be specific) that therefore ANY restrictions on voting are equally abhorrent.
Punkwad.
Interesting point. How do you prove you’re of age to vote without ID?
Obviously it’s also a right to commit fraud when voting.
I’m going to click through and read the comments in a bit. I can only imagine the abuse he is getting from this history lesson..
But then most people in this country are effectively illiterate; they'd be hard-pressed to read and completely understand their mortgage paperwork or any of a number of other legal documents they have signed such as insurance contracts
