My very 1st car was a red 67 MG, what a POS, But I had a lot of fun in that POS
My sister’s first car was a gorgeous forest green model. Alas, it was nothing but headaches and rarely ran. But it sure looked swell sitting there in the driveway.
My very first car was a British Racing Green 1959 MGA Fixed Head (Brit for Coupe). It was 5 years old when I bought it. It was simply the worst car I ever owned with regard to reliability and comfort, but it was so cool looking and so much FUN that I’ve recently been looking to replace it. Wish I had kept in the garage. Good examples are in the $20+K range today.
(Yes, I am that old.)
I had a '66 MGB for a while, with all the options: pinstripe leather interior, Seat belts, AM radio, heater and ashtray! The heater generated just enough output that on cold days, you could choose between a marginally lukewarm interior or defrosted windshield. It was a labor of love to keep it running, maintaining the dual SU carbs, dealing with cold rain that found its way through the top and dripped down the back of your neck, etc.
But on a nice day, or a clear, warm night, there was nothing better than dropping the top, feeling the breeze in the hair that I had back then, playing curves on backroads, or hitting the interstate with a bowl of stars overhead and seeing from horizon to horizon. All the work, money and heartache poured into that car was somehow worth it.
I don't think this new "cyberster," is going to have that same romantic appeal unless they somehow find a way to make it drip oil on the driveway.
I used to know a guy that had an MG. He’d replaced the entire drive train with a supper up GM iron Duke 4 cylinder engine and GM 4 speed. He used a narrowed Vega rear end. With headers, cam and after market pistons, and intake he had about 145 horse power. He had to stiffen the front suspension because the engine was heavier.
It was fun to drive!
My first car was a tangerine (orange) MG. Bought it brand new $2500. Fun to drive. Then a few years later I bought another one but they had changed from dual side draft carburetors to single. Nothing but trouble with the second one.
Had a blast running road rallies in CA, back in the day, in a 1968 MGC drop top.
Bought a B-GT some years later and enjoyed the hell out of it.
Thinking to pick up another one as a retirement project...but, prices are ugly.
Back when America was still America (before Obama was born) some filthy used car salesman sold me a 1956 Morris Oxford. Had to stop one time but brake pedal went to floor. Pulled emergency brake which was a foot long shaft mounted vertically on floor. Came off in my hand. Opened door and dragged foot to stop car.
Junque.

A BRG 67 was my second car, after a 63 that was on its last legs and which I returned to the seller. Loved my 67 but, yeah, dependable? No.
But it was a peach compared to the 75.5 B I bought new. It was a useless POS and I swapped straight across for a much cheaper Honda Civic. It was a smart decision.
Back when I was a lad, in the mid-1970’s, I had a dream job: shuttling sports and muscle cars between local dealerships. To this day, the most fun was in an MG-B. It was loud, rode hard, but it was the total raw sports car experience. (Admittedly, I was happy not to have to maintain one, though.)
