Major League Baseball announced this year’s All-Star Game would be relocated out of Atlanta, Georgia, costing the city as much as $190 million in revenue, according to official estimates.
Bill Volckmann, Finance Director for Cobb County, appraised the All-Star Game’s economic impact to fall somewhere between $37 million and $190 million in his 213-page agenda packet. While some dispute the high-end of those projections, it’s safe to say the city – especially lower-wage workers who would have worked the event – would have benefited greatly.

$37-190 million impact.....$153 million give or take. Don’t worry about it. That’s a bit of a stretch don’t you think. But then again, Cobb has is being taken over by the Left so who knows where Volkmann lies in the political spectrum.
Another thing, the stadium isn’t in the city of Atlanta anymore. The Braves moved because of the city and its BS and found a home in Cobb County.
It’s just another baseball game. No different than any other series.
When the NFL sent out the RFPs for who wanted the 2024 Super Bowl only one city, New Orleans, submitted a bid. Cities don’t want these things anymore. Due to security and other logistical costs, the amount of money taken in is offset by the amount they payout in OT to all the cops, firemen, EMTs, and everyone else.
And I’m willing to bet that the Republicans in the state, me being one of them, are perfectly ok with the game moving because of the new law. In fact, many, including me, wish it were even stricter.
this is a win for atlanta, guaranteed MLB lost their deposits
as a venue owner, I personally love it when someone cancels, I keep their money and can rent it out to someone else potentially :)
If it cost Atlanta XXX million dollars then it will cost MLB XXX,000 million dollars.
At 70 years old I’ve been a life-long Reds fan, but you could offer me the best seat in the house and I wouldn’t go.
Despite all the truths you’re saying, it is a very big deal to me.
The move to wokeness and punishing conservatives in Georgia because they want to ensure that every LEGAL vote counts while the entire Left Wing establishment declares Georgians to be White Supremacists is the very big deal, not the $$$ costs.
I’m right here in Alabama down I-85 just beyond Auburn, and have on many an occasion gone to Braves games.
No more. I’m out. I’m done.
The LIES used to paint us as racists and rednecks is too much.
MLB says the Georgia bill is discriminatory. In what way? They cannot say because it isn’t.
Don’t black citizens have the right to ensure their vote is safely entered as much as their right to buy alcohol,
by required proof they’re of the legal drinking age, for goodness sake?
MLB can go $#%#$% themselves, I’m done.
Better yet, what’s it ultimately going to cost the MLB, Dear Author?!
The more the leftists boycott Georgia, the better Georgia will be. The left will no longer be able to use outside influence and money to tell the residents what to do, what to think and how to act. I call that a massive win for Georgia. Let Georgia be Georgia.
MLB are scum.
I wish they would move it to Mars...
Are you being series right now, Brwirbart? How much revenue has Atlanta forgone by shutting its businesses down over the last year? Goodness gracious.
So let me get this straight - the Braves don’t even play in Atlanta anymore, but 13 miles north of Downtown Atlanta in Cumberland, Georgia. That means people who go to the game, will get ripped at the game and then drive their rental cars to ‘the city’ where the hotels are. Seems to me that the Government of Georgia just prevented a whole lot of drunk-driving accidents by helping to rid themselves of the game.
“The left will no longer be able to use outside influence and money to tell the residents what to do, what to think and how to act. I call that a massive win for Georgia.”
This.
You said it better than I could.
You can’t pay me to watch a game now.
Maybe they could host a televised pitching clinic by Fastball Fauci?
As they built the stadium there....the hotels moved in. Around a dozen within a mile of the stadium (walking distance), and another dozen within three miles. No one stays in Atlanta anymore....if they are there for the park or mall business.
Buckhead and Smyrna took most of the business. To be honest, I don’t think anyone misses the old park, the surroundings there, or the heart of Atlanta business. Whole business plan changed once they left the city.
I live less than 5 miles from the stadium. It’s in the Cumberland area of Cobb County. It does have an Atlanta address but not in Atlanta proper. It does have quite a few hotels in walking distance . I’ve never been in the stadium and the only thing it as done is increased crime. Tax payers still on the hook.
Music, sports weddings, etc. are getting crushed due to covid nonsense
If you cannot put butts in the stadium seats, cause covid, folks will not attend in person and City of Atlanta loses nothing.
Sue for damages.
What provisions are there in the contracts to change venue in absence of natural disaster, disease, or other calamity?
You know its a fake pandemic when the gubmit takes your freedom and then uses extortion to create a path to regaining your freedom
