A New Hampshire teacher is now one of the oldest women in America to give birth. Barbara Higgins, 57, welcomed a baby boy on March 20.
“We’ve beat the odds,” her husband Kenny Banzhoff told NBC10 in Boston. “I’m so proud of her, she’s been a trooper through the whole thing.”
In 2016, the couple tragically lost their 13-year-old daughter Molly to an undiagnosed brain tumor. After her death, Banzhoff and Higgins decided to have a third child.

Better her than me.
.
I am tired just thinking about it.
Real men give their wives their last names
Fifty-seven is not too old to have a baby. But seventy-five is too old to parent a teen.
Most women have been through menopause before 57.
Can’t imagine going through toddler years at that age..
That’s crazy. She’s got more years behind her than
ahead of her, not to mention the energy it takes to
raise a kid.
It was an IVF pregnancy. I wonder if her own eggs were used. At her age, it’s questionable if she had healthy eggs.
At 57 she has a baby. When she’s 62, that child will be 5. At age 67 she’s got a 10 year old. Etc.
At age 77 if she’s still with us, that child will be 20 and possibly still not “launched” as an adult.
Then again, she and her husband may not have declined severely by their late 70s/early 80s to launch that child. You just don’t know.
“Is that your grandma?”
Really? I came from a broke home and lived in garages, cars, and blankets on the lawn at 16. I spent time in juvenile hall during my late teens. I had my share of fist fights all along the way. I was in the Harley community way before it got popular (90's) while working at widget factories, and other odd jobs while living in a single room apartment.
I eventually joined the Navy and all that entails. Got out and took over a commercial business and developed two more.
Bottom line: I was as macho as a REAL man could be throughout my life, and not pretend. I never once thought my Wife of 20 years should take my surname. I didn't care at the time and still don't and it's a hassle to change all the documents.
We are partners in life and I don't give one shit what her last name is.
"Real men"? You have no clue what that means. Piss off.
My Dad was in his 70s when I was a teen, and my Mom was in her 60s. They did okay.
Good for you but the exception doesn’t disprove the rule. Your circumstances are much different from the girly men who assist their wives in trying to destroy the society that nurtured them.
“Can’t imagine going through toddler years at that age..”
Most people go through toddler years when they are around two or three./s
“is that your grandma” Haha, everybody thought my mom and dad were my grandparents! My oldest sister was 20 when i was born.
Since you clarified your point, I will agree somewhat. The feminists, academia, PC have neutered young men. Even the military is being pussified as I’ve read lately.
yes, it is! she should not have a kid at that age.
She’s looking for someone to take care of HER.
I am glad you are secure in your position. It is a tradition among many to be Mr and Mrs XYZ. Not Mr x and Ms y. But then again it’s old fashion and who needs traditional marriage. Not questioning you manliness but am pointing out the slow burn down of traditional marriage and it’s overall impact on society.
It was a requirement for me. If she wanted the ring, kneeling proposal, sharing my bed then she had to be my Mrs. it’s worked so far, fingers crossed it will work in the future.
Well at least the child is wanted.
