Fossil gas ‘has no viable future’, EU’s Timmermans says
EurActiv ^ | Mar 26, 2021 | Frédéric Simon

Europe has set a clear goal for full decarbonization by 2050, with renewables-based electricity set to become the dominant energy carrier, and that means fossil gas will have “only a marginal role” in the long run, EU climate chief Frans Timmermans said on Thursday (25 March).

By 2050, Europe’s energy system will be changed fundamentally, with ten times more solar and onshore wind power than today, said Timmermans, the European Commission’s executive vice-president in charge of the Green Deal.

And “at the end of that road, there will be no more space for coal, very little room for oil, and only a marginal role for fossil gas,” he said in a keynote speech at the annual conference of Eurogas, an industry trade association.

“So instead of waiting for the inevitable and face ever higher costs of transition, it’s better to adapt, prepare and adopt new sustainable business models,” he said, warning: “the longer you wait, the more expensive it becomes.” […]

“I want to be crystal clear: fossil fuels have no viable future,” he told participants at the Eurogas event. “And that also goes for fossil gas, in the longer run.”

“The future,” he continued, “is in carbon-free electricity and a decarbonized gas sector, which embraces hydrogen as an energy carrier and green hydrogen as the final destination.” …

Might we suggest that starting next week anything, ANYTHING, derived from or a byproduct of “fossil” fuel production (How many frigging dinosaurs were there anyway?) cease being used in the EU (yewwwwww). EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.

That’s what you would expect a bureaucrat “climate chief” to say.

And at that I'd have stood up, faced Timmermans and said, "Who elected you, you effin' clown. . . "

BS.

They want to demarket so they can buy up the pipline and oil fields for themselves and then, suddenly and unexpectedly, oil becomes the new miracle fuel.

When hydrogen and carbon were separately trapped under the earth’s crust, they were crushed together so tightly they formed hydrocarbons.

No dinosaurs required.

He may be climate chief, but someone needs to explain the concept of energy density to the chief.

Since the entire economy depends on fossil fuels, it is the American Economy that has no “viable future”, under the mismanagement and misrule of Harris-Biden.

Here is a nice little exercise you might try. When next talking with an under-informed woke joker about “Fossil Fuels” say... “Look around you, everything you see, including yourself, got here because of fossil fuels. Everything.

Chances of replacing fossil fuels anytime soon? Slim to none, simply because there are no “viable alternatives” and won’t be any for decades, if ever. They will never accept these truths, prompting you to throw up your hands, or your lunch.

You cannot have a well-regulated, stable electrical system without large rotating mass generators (nuclear, coal or gas). You cannot have reliable power without backups to wind and solar. The entire backup battery system in the USA today would keep us powered for FOURTEEN seconds if all generation stopped...as “green” sources are won’t to do at night when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind frequently stops blowing.

These people are non-engineer simpletons who don’t know which end of a hammer to pick up.

This is like saying “120 mph cars aren’t fast enough. We need cars that travel at light speed so we are going to ban the cars that go 120 mph”

Well wait a minute, when was light speed cars invented?

Same here, where are these cars, trucks that run on cold fusion? Because wind and freakin’ solar panels is not going to cut it, it’s not going to be enough to power a million fully loaded 186,000 pound rigs every day that are needed to travel to the smallest capillary of a road to feed and supply 330 million people otherwise, get ready to starve and live in hell.

The close the airports and put solar panels on that land.

I've yet to see an electric 747.

And China will have 85,000 coal fired plants....45,000 gas fired plants....and 105,000 nuclear plants in 2050. Of course people won’t be able to breathe (just as is true today) but their economy will be 50 times larger that the economies of the US and the EU combined.

So far, the fastest electric plane on record is the Extra 330LE, which hit about 213 mph. Long way to go, especially if they want a wide-body airliner with long range.

As far as I can tell nobody’s talking about hydrogen yet

I did my undergraduate and graduate thesis work on hydrogen in the 1990s and hydrogen clearly is the answer for the long-term transportation sector

But all these nitwits keep coming up with over and over is decarbonization that’s complete nonsense

If hydrogen is the answer, what’s the question?

Hydrogen bonding makes free hydrogen far too expensive to produce from most sources, especially water.
