I'm still not sure that Noem is someone to give up on, but she's not helping herself with statements like this.

It’s not cancel culture when your constituents don’t like what you did.
To: AnotherUnixGeek
And btw cancel culture really is a nice name for fascism.

More like a victim of her own weakness.
As we saw with Mike Pence, it doesn’t get better.

Lovely. Noem doubling down on her insult of conservatives on Tucker. I had high hopes for her. It’s now apparent she is a standard issue GOP politician who just had her Nikki Haley Confederate flag moment. Next.

Nobody is canceling Gov. Susan Collins.
Sign the damn bill and worry about the legal arguments and leftist groups later. She is using the NCAA as a strawman, even though the businesses in her state will get MORE support and the NCAA would have caved.
Phyllis Schlafly is rolling in her grave.

My thoughts exactly.
There is some thought by people that she is playing 4-D chess with this, but...I am tired of 4-D Chess.

Gov Noem is absolutely correct. Tucker, Bongino, The Fderalist, etc. all had knee-jerk reactions to MSM coverage of her letter. They never read her letter on air and discussed it. They just called what she wrote and said “caving to the NCCA”, etc. That is Cancel Culture.
From her letter:
For example, Section 2 of House Bill 1217 requires a student athlete to verify, each year, that the student “is not taking and has not taken, during the preceding twelve months, any performance enhancing drugs, including anabolic steroids.”
Presumably, this requirement was included to address a student taking these drugs as a part of a gender transition, but House Bill 1217 is not limited in this way. Rather, if a male student athlete failed to make the football team, and later learned that another student on the team was taking steroids without disclosing it, the student who didn’t make the team would be entitled to sue both the school and the steroid-using student for damages.
In addition, Section 2 creates an unworkable administrative burden on schools, who under its terms must collect verification forms from every student athlete, every year, as to age, biological sex, and use of performance-enhancing drugs; and furthermore must monitor these disclosures throughout the year so that if “reasonable cause” is found of a false or misleading form, the school can take action to avoid civil liability.
You can read her whole letter here.

Right -- for a politician to claim they are the victim of "cancel culture" is a joke. Unlike pretty much everyone else, their personal political beliefs
are their jobs, and exactly what they should be judged upon.
Assuming she was being truthful when she stated her reasons for vetoing the bill, her best answer would have been that she understands that some conservatives feel as if politicians always betray them, but that she promises to sign the revised bill and ensure the law is enforced, and looks forward to being judged by conservatives when the process is complete.
Whining about voters "cancelling" a politician is just a terrible look.

Unfortunately, I think EVERYONE needs to try to distinguish their critical comments as just that - legitimate criticism - without always trying to imply the person being criticized “must go” in some way. I may be wrong, but if I am not, Noem may be right to some extent.
She is maybe right in suggesting that the cancel culture is becoming “bipartisan”.
What I am saying is different than election campaign time when someone says they are voting against so-and-so because of their position on X.

I’ll admit to being a little befuddled by the explanation here by South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. The SD legislature passed a bill to protect women’s sports by banning biological males from participating in biological women’s sports. The bill has overwhelming support in South Dakota; however, Govenor Kristi Noem doesn’t support it.
When asked why she doesn’t support it, Noem seems to say she has received advice and counsel that the law would fail if challenged in federal court. Specifically Noem implies the NCAA would sue South Dakota and she believes the state would lose a lawsuit based on the law. If that is her position, essentially she is attempting to avoid litigation, proactively planning to lose that litigation, on a law supported by the majority in her state. WATCH:
What is your take?

If we are ever to get our majority back we need to stop eating our own. The Guv seemingly went from the next President to cancelled overnight. She is the same person with the same philosophy and record. The Left stays disciplined and single minded in the acquisition of power.
To: AnotherUnixGeek
Oh please, Kristi, don’t compound your miscalculation by claiming VICTIM STATUS.
To: Bruce Campbells Chin
However, if they were targeting her friends and family or her private business (if she owned one) THEN that would be cancel culture.
To: SubMareener
Even if she is right on the substance of her legal position, she’s flat-out wrong to go after “conservative cancel culture”. She’s have been far better off not getting pissy about it, and then defending the revised law after she signed it. All that “conservative cancel culture” language did was give some ammo to left to use against us.

If you let it dry out first it does.

My thoughts, too. Nothing worse then complaining your base is picking on you.
