My Peppers are finally poking their heads up. I’ll start Tomatoes this coming Friday...then it’s ‘anything goes’ from here on out.
I think I’m going to do my three hanging baskets in ‘Proven Winners’ Petunias this season. I’ll have to see what’s out there. ;)

I got 2 petunia varieties in seeds this year, Evening ScentSation and Carmine Velour. They are looking pretty good in the BioDome. Still small, only up for 2 weeks.
We made some progress on the hobby greenhouse this weekend and laid down a floor using 16x16 inch brick pavers, with weed mat underneath. Weeds will not get through that flooring, and no mud no matter how much water I use.

I laid a brick floor in my old greenhouse; it was great until ground squirrels decided to start excavating, LOL!
I have crushed gravel in my current greenhouse. A few random spritzes of vinegar take care of any weeds that crop up - and they do!
I had gravel in my greenhouses, covered with weed barrier.
Works great.
It’s been cool and damp over the past few days here in Central Missouri. It’s too muddy outside to bring in compost for the garden, so we worked on other things instead.
I spent most of the day Saturday cleaning up my workshop. Got all of the winter’s accumulation of stuff out of the boat, tackle boxes all organized, batteries charged, installed a new graph on the front, etc. Now I’m ready to go fishing.
Mrs. Augie and I got most of the deadfall picked up out of the yard, and piled in one spot. The ground needs to dry up before I can haul the pile away. It was too cold to prune orchard trees last month, and now they’re all starting to bud out, so that task will have to wait another year.

It's from 1992, but a really great reference with a lot of useful projects for the garden/yard.
I showed it to Beau and said, "Look what I found! Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!" LOL!

I bought one, 72 count, jiffy seed start tray and planted tomato seeds in it...and put it on a shelf in the greenhouse with the included plastic lid on top.
2 days later....seeds were popping!
I bought three more trays yesterday and put tomato, pepper, eggplant, and other seeds in them.
Less than 24 hrs later I have a couple of tomato and pepper seeds poking out!!
Now if they survive transplanting a week or two then I am definitely sold on these bad boys.
I am taking the lids off the trays when I have a few fully popped leaves showing (not true leaves) because I don’t want to make a microclimate in the tray that produces high humidity level and fungus.
So far so good!

First Tomato plants have popped up in the solarium tray.
Last year’s broccoli has begun to put out florets. Curious to see haw they may grow

Good news! They taste like shrimp!
Well...the shrimp thing is more pepper than garden,maybe more recipe than yard, but I already posted the Cicada link to weekly garden thread! Bon appetite! (I don't eat shrimp so I already have an excuse!))
Oh, one last thing.... If you have a worm farm or compost heap, collect and feed the dead cicadas or june bug shells to the worms! The more cicada chitin in the soil, the more chitinase their digestive system produces and return to the soil. When plants take up chitinase and bugs suck the juice containing this enzyme, it affects their shells and makes them more subject to attack and disease.

My peppers took 7-10 days to pop, but lettuces were up in three days.
I love those Jiffy pellets! Glad you’re having good results, too!
That sounds great! Please update as time goes on. Tomatoes one grows himself are a thousand times better than anything that can be found in a store.
You can have the broccoli, though. I’ve never felt the same about it since getting it stuck between my front teeth on a date. (There was no second date.) :-)
Not your typical peanut butter cookies. These are soft and chewy with mega p/b taste AND filled w/ fudge.
IRRESISTIBLE FUDGE FILLED PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES / makes 3 DOZEN
Ing Cookies ---1 1/2 cups Jif creamy, cup butter, 2 1/2 cups brown sugar 1/3 cup milk
2 tb vanilla 2 eggs 3 1/2 cups flour 1 1/2 tsp ba/soda, 1 1/2 tsp salt
Ing Filling---14 oz can sweetened condensed milk 3 cups Hershey's semi-sweet choc/chips tsp vanilla.
METHOD W/ paddle stir on low peanut butter, butter, brown sugar, milk and vanilla til light and fluffy. Add eggs singly, beat until blended. Add flour, baking soda and salt, Stir on low/just incorporate. Using a medium size ice-cream scoop, drop cookie dough on the prepared sheets. Bake in 375 deg oven on parchmented sheetpan just about 7 min (edges begin to brown). Cool a few minutes on sheetpan before cooling completely on wire racks. While the cookies are cooling, make the fudge filling.
FUDGE FILLING Heat smooth/melt on low cond/milk, choc/chips. Stir in vanilla. Set at room temp 15-20 min.
ASSEMBLY W/ spoon, spread 1/2 cookies ow/ fudge n flat side. Sandwich w/ rest cookies. Store air tight.
Now you’re just being mean, LOL!
