The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is a non-political respite. No matter what, you won’t be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!

That’s what I look like before and after my coffee in the morning.
He’s right there by the palm trees.
I see the boot on the right foot first, and then the rest. I didn’t even have to enlarge the photo for this one. 😎
Oh, I forgot-my bell pepper plant that I rescued last year and brought into the house last fall, has a 2 inch pepper on it and 2 or 3 buds starting. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to transplant it and have a big head start on peppers this year.

Just to make you feel better about snow. B85 degrees in greenhouse with vents popped open, sitting outside in short sleeves enjoying morning coffee (it’s afternoon to all who don’t work graveyard shift) and watching the non transient hummingbirds drink from my feeders.
If the task today is to find the Black Panther - I win!! :)
I gave up shaving my legs for Lent. See me after Easter. Maybe. ;)
I wish we had Bluebirds. Beau has a few houses up - and remembers to clean them out about every 3rd or 4th YEAR, LOL!
I cleaned out my Jenny Wren House the other day. It hangs in the garden and she chatters away at me (scolding, really) all spring and summer.
I added new twine for the hanger; didn’t want the OSHA Bird Guy on my case! ;)
Thanks, Pete!
What a great piece of music and lovely butterflies! I’m assuming it’s sugar water in the spongy-feeders?
I found the Soldier right away - but I’ve had Army ‘Winter Training.’ And I’m STILL cold, LOL!
The rope bridge is from, ‘The Jungle Book’ and the deer is IN the tree stand, having coffee. ;)
We’re having two 60 degree days in a row, so I’ve been playing outside most of the day. My greenhouse has been running between 70-80 degrees, one door open and the roof vent up. We’ve been invited to a BBQ tomorrow afternoon. Yay! I don’t have to cook! :)
Then, snow on Monday. Meh. It’s March. I’ll take what I can get this month, LOL!
Ha! But you don’t live in 80plus degree temps where shorts are a must. My saving grace is that my work boots cover up some of the hairy leg.
I didn’t ask, but I would also assume sugar water. Did you notice one of the butterflies had damaged wings? The Butterfly Place in MA. One landed on my hand and I was trembling as I tried to film it with the other hand.
The music is Joe Blanchard, who volunteers to play the music that he composes for patients in the hospital. He’s got 3 albums out and can’t quite let the 4th out of his hands. I’ve got a YouTube playlist for his songs.

Ah, The Jungle Book! Thanks, I thought it was real.
Re: bluebirds
At my old house, as soon as I added a birdbath, it hosted bluebird parties in the summer. I put out no food or housing, just the bath, and lots of fresh water. Six to 12 bluebirds loved to splash around. I’d have to go out and add water because they’d been so splashy.

Also on the topic of saved plants from last year, I have 2 pink osteos that are looking pretty great considering they’ve been in a house since fall. No blooms but good leaves. Our sunniest room is very nice for orchids too, all 7 are blooming now. My BioDome plants (80) are all up except one plug which I may have missed while seeding. So I give Park Seeds a 100% germ rate so far. I have many more seeds waiting in storage ( sealed tightly in fridge, per my mother’s advice).
Thank you!
