Georgetown Law professor caught complaining about black students on Zoom: video
NY Post ^

A white Georgetown Law professor was fired Thursday after getting caught on video belittling black students during a Zoom call with a colleague, saying they “usually” perform “just plain at the bottom” of her classes.

Georgetown Law Dean Bill Treanor said he was “appalled” by the conversation between now-terminated adjunct professor Sandra Sellers and another faculty member, David Batson, who was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

“I informed Professor Sellers that I was terminating her relationship with Georgetown Law effective immediately,” Treanor wrote in a statement released Thursday afternoon. “During our conversation, she told me that she had intended to resign. As a result of my decision, Professor Sellers is no longer affiliated with Georgetown Law.”

Since grades are blinded and therefore the teachers can't inflate or deflate grades based on race, why is it a problem that the teacher points out that what she experiences among her students? My take is that the teacher is a liberal that would like to be able to help black students score better. They are eating their own.

Yes, they are eating their own.

If she’s making an honest observation that certain types of students don’t do as well as others, how is that racist or bigoted?

If she had said something similar about poor white students from Appalachia, as a group, not doing well in her classes, would she have been fired?

So telling the truth is a firing offense? My attorney would be preparing to sue.

Is the truth belittling? The problem isn’t the race but quotas and lowering standards.

She prefaced her comment by saying “I hate to say this” and it “gives me angst” to make her comment about performance of black students. She clearly WANTS her black students to do better.

She’s probably typical DC liberal, and is someone facing a moment of cognitive dissonance.

That’s she’s being attacked is a lesson to all other swamp dwellers - do NOT stray from accepted platitutes!

Black profs could be caught saying they hope all white people die without worrying about being fired.

I sense a good lawsuit brewing. Hopefully, this might inflict injury on the formerly Catholic University that used to have respect.

Oh well, law schools in general now are held in the same regard as schools of astrology. No wait, I’d get more logic in an astrology class.

That situation is a contradiction and shouldn’t be allowed.

You tell them they can’t make it because of white privilege, they act accordingly and someone notices?

So you fire them?

They need to be taught about consequences, outcomes and aspirations.

With consequences you are informed of your and can then formulate better outcomes

When you think about outcomes you want then aspirations take over.

But if you going to tell them they are inferior because of their race they will act accordingly.

If you demonstrate what is possible and ask them to dream and their dream is actualized by competing against other students for academic achievement, which will lead to better job opportunities than those who under performed them.

Society, all societies are merit based.

Bottom line.

Note that the second professor is going to be fired for not turning the first professor into the authorities for her Wrongthink.

I certainly hope so. Although, they will settle and raise tuition on the 50% of payers.

That’s not complaining...that’s just making people aware...that these students are not doing their part.

now-terminated adjunct professor Sandra Sellers

Do you know what an adjunct professor is? It is one who works part-time with no benefits, no regular salary and no chance of tenure. Our liberal colleges and universities want cheap labor and since there is an over supply of MAs and PhDs, they are readily available.

I was offered such a position which paid $27 per class period (night class, meeting once per week on the other side of town). What with expenses (gas), time spent on class preparation and grading exams, I calculated that I could make out better taking a job at McD's.

Ms. Sellers might want to check out some entry level positions at Starbuck's or elsewhere.

She’s not wrong. They have dumbed down college curricula in order to admit and graduate more unprepared black college applicants. She is telling the truth. That will get you fired here in 1984/21.

How terrible of her to point out that students who could not get in based on their academic merit tended to lag academically once admitted.

Gosh, that’s only been borne out by decades and decades of evidence and been cited by numerous people as yet another of the really negative effects of affirmative action. ie it HARMS the minority student it seeks to help.

Allow me to make an analogy. Imagine if NFL teams were required to start a number of White Cornerbacks commensurate with the White percentage of the overall population. Would it be “racist” to point it out when they failed to cover receivers and defenses got shredded as a result? Of course not. Yet that is exactly what they just fired her for doing. No, she’s not saying those students are lazy or stupid - only that they’ve been admitted/promoted beyond what their academic qualifications would merit and as a result they can’t compete very well.

Since grades are blinded and therefore the teachers can't inflate or deflate grades based on race

That is an important point that I am glad you made. When I attended GU Law, and I presume it continues today, grading was blind. You had a number or code on your test, and the teacher had no idea who you were when grading the test. Results were posted in those days outside the classroom, by number, not name. The only exception to that system would be if a class required a written report, but nowadays, that could be kept anonymous, too. As a result, it would be impossible for this professor to discriminate against any particular race, at least in connection with grading. I am curious how she knew who were the lower ranked students.
