Eggs don't always get the best reputation. In fact, the first thing that may come to mind when you hear the word "eggs" is cholesterol. So, it may come as a surprise to some to see the term "fat-blasting" associated with eating eggs regularly.
But first, let's clear up the cholesterol confusion. Each egg contains about 185 milligrams of cholesterol, however, you'll notice the most recent USDA dietary guidelines don't specify how much cholesterol you should limit yourself to each day (they got rid of that guideline in the 2015-2020 edition). Many experts agree the focus should instead be on limiting the amount of saturated and trans fats you consume as well as added sugars. So, why do eggs continue to receive backlash?
"Eggs have a history of being marketed poorly. Many people still think that eggs can raise their cholesterol levels, but that's actually not true. Dietary cholesterol actually improves your cholesterol profile," Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN, founder of Nutritious Life told Eat This, Not That! in a different article.
In fact, several studies have shown that participants' HDL (the good kind of cholesterol) levels improved after they ate between one and three eggs daily. And according to Harvard Health Publishing, the higher your HDL levels are, the better. (Related: The 7 Healthiest Foods to Eat Right Now).
HDL can help remove the bad kind of cholesterol, called LDL, from the walls of your arteries, aka the blood vessels that deliver oxygen-rich from the heart to the tissues of the body. If there's enough HDL available in the body, it will actually latch onto the LDL that's building up in the arteries (which can lead to a form of heart disease known as atherosclerosis) and transport through the bloodstream until it reaches the liver. Then, the liver removes the harmful cholesterol by dumping it into the intestines by way of bile where it will be excreted through well, going number two.
Aside from boosting HDL cholesterol levels, eggs also contain an essential nutrient called choline, which is essential for a healthy metabolism. In fact, a group of studies found that obese patients who followed a low-fat diet and ate choline-rich eggs for breakfast lost weight compared to those who ate a bagel for breakfast—for the same amount of calories. For context, a single egg offers about 20-25% of your daily requirement of choline.
More importantly, choline is essential for making a substance that is necessary for removing that harmful cholesterol from your liver and into your intestines.
And to think that eggs were the pinnacle of eeeeevvvviiiiiiil by the almighty government just a few years back.
One four egg omelet with hash browns, cheese, bacon, sausage, onion, etc, stat!
I eat four egg omelets often: with ham, mushrooms, onion, bell pepper and cheese with a side of fried potatoes and a couple glasses of milk.
Occasionally, I’ll have 3 eggs sunny side up with bacon, sausage links and ham with hash browns or fried potatoes...and toast. Gotta sop up that egg yolk with your toast.
We have 10 laying hens right now. We’ve collected over 4,000 eggs since we started a few years ago. We have 3 growing boys and they eat eggs everyday. My 16 year old eats at least 15 eggs a week. He plays football and wrestles, so no problem burning the calories.
I highly recommend raising chickens to everyone. It’s fun and easy and the eggs are light years better than what you get from the store. We have 2 acres, so that helps.
Predators are the only problem. We’re on the lookout for coyotes, foxes, and fisher cats. But that’s what the varmit gun is for...
On weekends, when I have more time, I'll make my famous four egg omelettes with mushrooms, swiss cheese and bacon.
My cholesterol profile has been IMPROVING most of my adult life as a result of eating a lot of eggs and butter.
I can't believe people think it's more convenient to sit in a drive-through at McDonalds or someplace and get one of those horrendous fast food meals. It literally takes me about 5 minutes to make and clean up a decent breakfast at home.
And when you have eggs in the morning (combined with whole fat yogurt and berries), you are not even hungry at lunchtime. I often skip lunch altogether or just wolf down a tin of sardines (another superfood) or a handful of nuts.
Raccoons too
marked thanks
My friend Manuel has 40 acres and has free-range chickens.
My buddy Scott raises them in the city, and critters keep killing them.
Manuel says “you can have some of my chickens if you can catch them,
Scott says, how many chickens you got?
Manuel says, I don’t know, I have a lot of coyotes too....
Love dat yolk! Made many 3 eggers myself! Chop em up ad mix in the hash browns. Dammit, no breakfast deliveries in this town...belly growling. The Germans maintain the notion that beer is a food. Hope so BURP!
My chickens are producing 14 eggs a day. I bought them about three months after the lockdown started and I figured they would be a nice “just in case” SHTF protection.
But I don’t eat many eggs. That just changed.
Eggs for days. Bugs and grubs eaten. Fertilizer delivered.
Don't forget the well fed lynx!

how many chickens do you have to produce 14 eggs per day?
More meat on the bones, too. BTW, why did the coyote never sue Acme Co. for their poorly designed products? Ralph Nader would have had a field day with Acme Co.!
Yup. And racoons too.
There just aren’t enough cool things to do with eggs for me to eat them every day. The boredom would kill me. I can barely make a week of eggy breakfast before I’m bored.
All this egg talk got me hungry so I’m now sitting here eating 3 fried egg’s over sourdough toast with real butter. Flip the eggs upside down and break the yolk so it soaks into the toast. Put a little red or green salsa on top and you’re good to go.
Yup. Everybody loves chicken. Even skunks.
They get put up at night. And coyotes tend to die of lead poisoning around these parts.
Here’s a trick. Dismember the coyote and spread the parts around the perimeter of your property. Effective coyote repellent for about 2 years.
When I was a kid in Kansas, it wasn’t uncommon to see coyote pelts hanging in trees or on fences.
