| NGC 2244: A Star Cluster in the Rosette Nebula
Posted on 02/21/2021 3:41:11 PM PST by MtnClimber
Explanation: In the heart of the Rosette Nebula lies a bright open cluster of stars that lights up the nebula. The stars of NGC 2244 formed from the surrounding gas only a few million years ago. The featured image taken in January using multiple exposures and very specific colors of Sulfur (shaded red), Hydrogen (green), and Oxygen (blue), captures the central region in tremendous detail. A hot wind of particles streams away from the cluster stars and contributes to an already complex menagerie of gas and dust filaments while slowly evacuating the cluster center. The Rosette Nebula's center measures about 50 light-years across, lies about 5,200 light-years away, and is visible with binoculars towards the constellation of the Unicorn (Monoceros).

So little we know and understand about the grandest of God’s universe.

Looks like car exhaust. Trillions of evil gun-owning, God-believing, F150-driving right-wingers must live there.

Hi.
Looks like the little man on the left is trying to slay a giant heart on the right.
With what looks like photon torpedoes.
No, I’m not stoned.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it bears a striking similarity to the french painter Arnold Ziffel's famous "Nude at a Filling Station" painting.
“Arnold is also artistically talented: he is working on a novel, he plays the piano, and he is an accomplished abstract painter, dubbed “Porky Picasso”, whose piece titled “Nude at a Filling Station” wins first prize out of two thousand entries in a student art contest. [7][8]”

I need better binoculars!
Gorgeous, as always. God is in His Heaven, for sure! Cannot WAIT to get there.
Well, maybe a few more Earth-decades. ;)

Re: “...lies about 5,200 light-years away, and is visible with binoculars...”
I need better binoculars!
Given that 1 light-year (the distance light travels in a year) is roughly 6 TRILLION miles, 5,200 light years is “right down the block” in terms of cosmic distances.
Fun fact #2601.23
The furthest object that can be seen with the naked eye is the "nearby" galaxy of Andromeda, at just 2.3 MILLION light years. It can be seen in very dark skies as a faint white smudge in the night sky.

We have no ‘light pollution’ out here on our farm. When August rolls around, we can see The Milky Way from our front porch.
Which we are part of, Right? I can’t keep this space-stuff straight, LOL!

Yes, that broad band of stars known as the Milky Way is an edge-on view of our own galaxy, The Milky Way. The MWG is basically flat like the solar system, and since we of course reside within the flat plane of the galaxy we see it as a bright band across the sky.

We have no ‘light pollution’ out here on our farm. Sorry, meant to ask you.
Do you have any artist pigs like Arnold on your farm?

Listen! I’ve put on a few pounds during the ‘Plan-Demic’ but you DID NOT need to point out my ‘bulge’ to the rest of the Solar System!
LOL!
No pigs that can paint, but I am raising an Angus/Holstein steer right now. He’ll be in my freezer in 18 more months, if all goes right. His name is ‘Weber,’ as in the grill.
Our previous steers were ‘Dinner’ and ‘Supper.’ ;)
