Yes, that broad band of stars known as the Milky Way is an edge-on view of our own galaxy, The Milky Way. The MWG is basically flat like the solar system, and since we of course reside within the flat plane of the galaxy we see it as a bright band across the sky.

Listen! I’ve put on a few pounds during the ‘Plan-Demic’ but you DID NOT need to point out my ‘bulge’ to the rest of the Solar System!

No pigs that can paint, but I am raising an Angus/Holstein steer right now. He’ll be in my freezer in 18 more months, if all goes right. His name is ‘Weber,’ as in the grill.
