Texas Power Outages Explained—Jason Isaac | American Thought Leaders
American Thought Leaders - The Epoch Times ^ | February 20, 2021 | Jason Isaac

What’s behind the devastating power outages in Texas? Some say the problem was freezing natural gas pipelines; some say it’s because wind turbines froze or mismanagement by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).

To find out what’s going on in Texas, I sat down with Jason Isaac, who predicted a power crisis in Texas months ago. He’s the director of Life:Powered, a national initiative of the Texas Public Policy Foundation seeking to “raise America’s energy IQ.”

This is American Thought Leaders, and I’m Jan Jekielek.

I’m sorry, you were replying to the other poster. My remark should have been sent to the other guy.

I haven’t watched it, yet. Most likely I will if I have some time between hauling water and trying to find a way to repair the water supply to my house. Jason Isaac was my State rep and lost all my respect when he ran for con-gress and nad a fundraiser at Carl Rove’s ranch aptly named Cinco de Mayo.

In the past, if the power was out it was because ice, a tornado, or some such had physically tore up lines. This was the first time in Texas history that the power was shut down because they couldn’t generate it.

Clear enough?

During the first bout of ice, I believe on Saturday some lines went down. PEC had people out and had them repaired under 4 hours. A little over 24 hours later, late Sunday night was when the rolling blackouts began. Unfortunately for me, that same Sunday afternoon I had to drive on the ice to San Antonio to tend to my business and spent the night there, so when they turned off the power at home, I wasn’t there to turn the generator on so my booster water pump and the water filters froze and busted.I would like to find out who is on the ERCOT to “thank” them.

In all of Texas history, power out meant lines were down, not that they couldn’t generate it. This was the first time -ever- that they simply couldn’t make electricity.

It’s historic. And not in a good way.

In all of Texas history power only went out because storms destroyed lines. This is the first time they simply couldn’t generate electricity. And it’s a failure of the Republican Party that has run the state for 25 years.

Did you get a chance to watch the video yet? It’s about 30 minutes. If you live in Texas it might be worth your while to hear the explanation. If not, you might not be interested in taking the time to watch it. (altho this issue really is affecting many parts of the country.). Yes power generation capacity is different in Texas just even in the last five years. The green energy subsidies have ended up causing much more of our power to be supplied by “unreliable” energy (the name he give to green energy such as wind and solar), which is fine to use as a backup, but not to rely on in critical times such as extreme cold or extreme heat. We have less power generation capacity from reliable energy (Coal, natural gas and nuclear) now combined with more demand because our population has grown, so it’s a very critical situation.

“Excellent 30 minute video explaining the real story behind the Texas Power blackout”

A summary would be nice ...

Wow, I am so sorry. I have friends all over the place with major damage from frozen pipes.

This is due to these long term awful policies combined with STUPID decisions by ERCOT in the first hours of the storm. But we wouldn’t have been in that position in the first place if not for way overreliancde on wind power.

There are some ass wipes on this forum who cream their jeans over their ability to hijack threads.
Don’t give them the satisfaction. Better to just leave them standing there with their asses hanging out.

You are correct ... it has been GOPe Republicans in office, in Texas for decades that pushed ‘green’ energy... Do not expect any of then to step up and admit they are responsible for the frozen pipes/ ruined floors. Why ol’ Ted fly away Cruz was tri-global-energys-2019- Congressional recipient wind leadership award...

Big wind was not winterized, along with a bunch of their carbon consuming infrastructure that underperformed.

It’s like the southern trucker with 40 weight in his crankcase, straight water in his radiator, and an old pair of batteries. After a night at the truck stop at 10F, the old girl ain’t workin too well.

The immediate issue was ERCOT asleep at the wheel, not making decision to do some short limited rolling blackouts at the beginning, then things snowballed until it was almost too late by the time they started the blackouts and it caused additional problems that couldn’t be easily remedied at that point. It was kind of a vicious cycle they allowed themselves to get into. He explains the power generation science of it what was happening.

The long term issue of why they even were in that position is this - (sorry if this isn’t a great summary but I need to leave so this is quick).

Federal “green subsidies” have distorted the energy production marketplace so that unreliable “green” energy production (Solar &wind – which both only produce in perfect conditions) have and are pushing out reliable energy production (natural gas, coal, nuclear). Reliable energy now can barely compete against the other subsidized forms which are not adequate nor are they safe & reliable.

So now in Texas and in many parts of the US there is not enough reliable energy to supply in emergency situations like this or indeed very soon to even keep up with normal energy demand in our growing economy.

Then we need to spread this information around to everyone we know so enough Texans understand what their incompetent representatives have done to all of us. We need laws that demand if any company takes federal grants to subsidized a wind farm they are required to on their own dime, have reliable power generation from coal, natural gas or nuclear at the ready that can be used to back up their unreliable energy in an emergency situation.

I dont know how that can work from an engineering perspective, but there needs to be some legislation that makes it economically painful to accept the FEDERAL green subsidies.

Well, I will fly away Ted Cruz, sure has not stepped up to claim in public his prestigious award for the ‘wind’, green energy award. We have frauds in our midst, and too many are easily swayed by ‘wise’ sounding words of hot air.

The last thing Texans need is a Cruz led investigation, he is tooooo well versed in cover ups, to protect his principal conservatism...
