Wayne’s World also took a shot or two at Chelsea with Wayne and Garth, in character, expressing distaste for her looks. One can argue that it’s inappropriate to pick on a kid, and I’m not going to contest that, but I certainly did appreciate that earlier era. He was reading from an in/out list (there were lots of them that came out right after the election). As rush read it, “in: cute kid in the white house” Then asked for a pic of chelsea, only to get a pic of the dog.
This was a MISTAKE. Evidently this was not planned. It was the cause of a behind the scenes tech crew guy. Its possible he did it on purpose, but if that was the case, he did it without Rush’s knowledge or permission.
I heard this was not the guys first on air mistake. It was more like his third and the show was only a couple months old. As i understand it, the guy was fired for this third incident and he went on to produce some short lived tv show.

As i understand it, it wasnt done or planned by rush. He was taken by surprise by it himself.

We had some friends and he “had” a political career in mind, they were in their late thirties, early forties and decided to have a child and, trust me it was for optics only. The little thing was with babysitters all the time, and trotted her out only when there was a public event. Honestly, they treated her like a pet and that is the same thing I thought of with Chelsea and the Clintons. So possibly that was Rush’s point.
Did he offer her a sugar cube and carrot?
Rush said he is almost always right 99.9% of the time, well this must by that .1%.

Chelsea’s been chompin’ at the bit to get back at Rush.
Actually, Rush apologized to Chelsea Clinton no less than 5 times on air, both on the TV and Radio shows. He explained that in rehearsal the second picture was of the Clinton's cat, and was unaware that someone on the staff made the change prior airtime. Being the class act he was, we never learned of the consequences for the staffer.
Rush did not make any tit for tat excuses and people do him a disservice when they do. Just tell the truth. Rush was a class act and his response to this error demonstrated his class.
I never supported this. Chelsea was 12. She did not choose her parents. Not ok.
Still love Rush. That was bad though.
He explained it as the pictures got mixed up in the presentation. In fact. I think he apologized during the next segment.
And if he did mean to do it. Who cares. I’m not going to be lectured by pearl clutchers who have, for my whole adult life, called ‘us’ racist nazi homophobes and now terrorist insurrectionists white supremacists etc etc etc...
When you're constantly in the battle at the TIP of the spear, you're going to occasionally make an error. I think Rush said a few times that he regretted this one. It was an unforced error. Small potatoes, in the big picture.
