Followers of The Prepared were likely better off during the pandemic, compared to those who just read emergency preparedness guidelines from organizations like The American Red Cross. Until recently, most organizations suggested storing only three days’ worth of food and water. The Prepared says two weeks is better—and was one of the first outlets to suggest the importance of buying facemasks. It wasn’t until April that The National Center for Disaster Preparedness recommended people start buying protective masks that align with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Their food and water guidelines have evolved to recommend anywhere from three to 14 days of nourishment—depending on budget and space constraints.

How prepared were you for COVID and government lockdowns?
What did you get right? Where were you lacking? What are you doing differently going forward?
For those of you planning to go to some retreat if SHTF, how are you handling the possibility of travel restrictions or of neighbors who may be wary of or even hostile to someone coming in from another place, not knowing if they are bringing some disease with them?
I had plenty of backup food but not enough rifle ammo
Before prices went insane
Best prep for this nonsense would have been to keep the newsoms and whitmers and faucis of the FAR from posisitions of authority.

I had plenty of TP, paper towels, a pretty good amount of food, going into the early Covid period. Guns and ammo were all lost in a tragic boating accident. I had a big box of masks I had bought post-SARs in the prepper closet. Have a small stash of quality freeze dried food I haven’t had to touch.
I managed to hit Costco for a bunch of food early on. Was then OK to hunker down until the supply chain issues started to settle out.
Have at least three places I could bail out to if SHTF here, but am suburban enough I think I’d be OK for a while. Good police force and leadership. SHTF bailout options include one within an hours drive exurban, one 2 hours away very rural, and one 5 hours away with family that’s also rural/exurban. Not very worried about travel restrictions.
I’m not an uber-prepper, but I was better prepared than most, is how I would characterize my situation and history. I have continued to look for opportunities to improve. Have a better long-term rice and beans stash now, in case of severe emergency, for example. Cheap and easy. Looked at some more freeze-dried stuff in-store at Costco the other day, but it was all carbs, no protein, so I passed.
Ditto.

I have a rural mountain home in WV that were holed up into for a while. We have Airbnb rentals on adjacent properties that can be reclaimed for family overflow during whatever’s next. That’s really the extent of what I “did right” for this. The other stuff that follows isn’t really applicable to the CCP Virus, but who knows what’s next.
At the mountain home, I have lots of guns and ammo and keep some buy-it-and-forget-it, expiration-proof bulk food like rice and honey. I have unlimited water with a 30GPM well and a generator backup that can run the well pump. I have a small 400W solar grid that will keep some over other essential stuff running when I need to conserve gas with the genny.
My latest project is converting a high top Ram Promaster 2500 into a semi-stealth 4 person camper in case we need to evacuate to a completely different area or the country. I’m about 60% finished with that.

I have 6 months worth of food in the pantry.
Not to mention the cattle, chickens and such
around the property. Garden, trees, local farms,
and ranches.
I live on catchment, presently I have about 12 months of water on hand, never mind that I get 70 - 130 inches of rain per year.
Ammo, if you know how much you have for each gun, you don’t have enough.
10.6 kW of solar just about to be installed.
You can’t drive from your county to mine.
Most all our Democrat Crazies are on an island 120 miles away from me.
That guys is Prepping!
Aloha.
I prepped well in advance for the pandemic (a year ago).
I was over-stocked in everything so there were no negative surprises.
My wife was laughing at me until the first time she walked into a grocery store and the paper products aisle was empty.
Then she said—”Well, you blew it on Y2K but you were right on this one...” :-)
We already live way out in the country—so no “people” issues.
I don’t even think of myself as a prepper and I used the last roll of TP I had on hand in Jan. 2020 about December. By that time the stores re-stocked and I have enough right now to last until next December. But I’ll get more before then.
I never took the last package on the shelf either. You’re welcome, my selfish neighbors. :)
“It wasn’t until April that The National Center for Disaster Preparedness recommended people start buying protective masks that align with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
But in their defense, they were always on TV, including Fauci, saying masks were useless. /s
Always prepped.
Since 2008.
Gun enthusiasts ought to stop boating, or at least leave their guns home.
= = =
Singularly responsible for the threat of rising water levels.
Guns and plenty of ammo. All guns dry (not in lake).
Fairly large solar system. Generator. Fuel.
Chickens. 2 sources of water. Silver and cash in safe. Ham gear and even an EMP-proof jeep and motorcycle.
Live on 50 acres and heat with wood.
I keep well stocked. But I have added an Excalibur dehydrator and am ordering a food vacuum sealing system in a few days. I want longer storage capability.
Spam is an awesome protein, packs easily
I just scrolled down to your post and before I deciphered just what it was I thought “Wow! This thread sure grew fast.” LOL
