Some Europeans get choosy about which vaccines they want
AP ^ | 13 Feb 2021 | VANESSA GERA

As AstraZeneca shots are rolling out to European Union nations this month, joining the Pfizer and Moderna doses already available, some people are balking at being offered a vaccine that they perceive — fairly or not — as second-best.

...Several European nations have recommended the drug only for people under 65, and other countries have recommended it for those under 55, because AstraZeneca’s trials included a relatively small number of older people.

The World Health Organization says the AstraZeneca vaccine is about 63% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 after two doses. That’s less than the 95% effectiveness reported by Pfizer and Moderna but experts caution against such comparisons as the studies were done at different times and under different conditions. Furthermore, all have proven extremely effective at preventing serious illness and death.

Nervy of some people to be “choosy”

i believe astra zenica was the one that gave the wrong doses to a large number of people in their clinical trials. And is less effective. I’d wait for one of the others

The first two vaccines rushed to market use a genetics method that is totally untested in any mass vaccination effort for side effects or health damage or long term consequences. Hopefully will work out ok but I don’t feel like being a guinea pig. Follow -up vaccines include some that employ the normal proven bio mechanisms without the genetics manipulation issue. I’m planning on taking one of them.

Id wait for Johnson and Johnson and skip the biotech mRNA Frankenstein therapy.

Moderna and Pfizer both launched their vaccines in January of 2020. Yes kids, that’s literally before the virus was even identified.
Before this, no mRNA therapy or vaccine was ever approved for human use. Now we get this, in the middle of a panic, heavily influence by politics.

Johnson and Johnson is far more traditional, far more sane.

You mean the logical science mRNA platform? You are aware that a viral infection takes over the cell and pumps out mRNA. You are aware the AstraZeneca uses a vector to induce mRNA production in the Cell

Can you honestly say that a direct mRNA injection is a distinction without difference?

Ivermectin, or Hydroxychloroquine in conjunction with zinc, are the perfect foils for this virus.

But, don’t tell the proletariat. They prefer the Bill Gates vaccine solution.

And, of course, the damn masks.

I’m holding out for a one shot ‘fix’, probably the J&J vaccine.. we’ll have to see what cruise lines require.

Most folks today are doing the ‘Faux Xi’ two-shot shuffle, if any vaccine is even available, that is.

I’m sure wealthy EUros will get their shots.

11 days after receiving 1st shot of mRNA Frankenstein Moderna covid-19 vaccine, I feel as energetic and in solidly good health as ever. If there was a ballet class in St Augustine, I would love to join it nearing age 81.

I'm not a medical professional but can anybody explain why a vaccine is necessary for a virus with something like a 99.9% survival rate?

A vaccine will simply inject small amount of the virus into you to allow you to develop immunities. And even if you take it, you could still die if you are part of that 0.1% and still have to do that silly mask routine (at least where it is required).

With a 99.9% survival rate, why not just remove the mask, live your life, and take your chances?

The 2nd shot of Moderna vaccine is identical in size and chemistry with the 1st shot. After 11 days of receiving 1st shot I have zero side effects. (Age 80 & 10 months).

Oh “science”!
LOL, ok sawbones, it IS a different mechanism to create the immune response than the traditional type of vaccine. If you wanna take it, go right ahead. But there are reasons it has never been approved for human use before.

The main advantage to the new biotech Franken vaccine is that it can be mass produced easier and cheaper. But there are no advantages to me as a consumer. It’s great for the checkbook of Pfizer and Fauci (Moderna), but for me, no advantage.

But knock yourself out. I’ll watch when the autoimmune disorders and miscarriages happen down the road.

Survival rate for seniors is not as great as younger healthy individuals. Ask Gov Coumo about results in senior centers in NYC.

Before this, no mRNA therapy or vaccine was ever approved for human use.

Is that statement true or not? If not, how do we KNOW that they are safe and effective.

I do believe there is a difference between having an attenuated vaccine that targets the virus and produces a sterilizing immunity vs one that simply softens the course of the infection in myself - but does not prevent transmission and or reinfection. The former prevents me from ever getting it (and passing it along with or without mutations - it can't mutate because it can't reproduce). The later lets me get it again and again - each time, the virus can reproduce and mutate AND be passed along.

That's kind of what I'm saying. Maybe the vaccine for elderly nursing home folks. But the rest of us - we need to rip off those masks and live our life.

I was one of those 800,000 deplorables in DC on Jan 6. We rode the Metro and crammed together on the mall with no masks and no social distancing. No outbreak. If there was, I'm sure the MSM would trumpet 24/7 how Trump put all his supporters at risk. But that never happened. And that is telling.

Maybe this whole pandemic is much ado about nothing. Except if you are very old or have other health problems.

Ok sparky. But -not- less effective at reducing death rates. It’s a good protection with much less risk. And it’s a good hedge of a bet for a brand new never used type of vaccine, for a corona class virus nobody has ever had a good vaccine for, produced in a rush, but bad globalist people like Fauci and Gates, under political pressure. Oh, and created BEFORE the virus was even identified.

Anyway, the only reason I’m getting it eventually is as a magic talisman that lets me travel and go out. I just need to prove “I got it”, but I am more concerned about a shingles and tetanus shot than a corona shot. So for me, the number one concern is low risk of side effects, not how “effective” it is.

But get it if you want. You do you, boo.

PS.. why are pregnant women not advised to get it?

The Johnson and Johnson and Astrazenica are not an attenuated virus type. They are called adenovirus vector vaccines. It’s a little different. Probably better than way old school attenuated because it carries no risk whatsoever of getting someone sick with the virus if they have a compromised immune system.
But they are much safer than the mRNA vaccines.

The virus is a biotech virus and now they want their biotech solution.

This was their big chance to open the door to human mRNA vaccines.
