Coldest weather in over 30 years possible for Central Texas (only 9.95 years left)

AUSTIN, Texas - Get ready for more cold weather here in Central Texas.

In fact, the coldest weather is still ahead of us. Another potent shot of extremely cold air could bring the coldest weather in over 30 years for the Austin area by Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

So, let's put the numbers in perspective, starting with Monday afternoon. The current forecast calls for a high of 24 degrees in Austin on Monday. This type of cold is certainly very rare, but not completely unheard of. The coldest high temperature on record for Camp Mabry is 20 degrees on Jan. 10, 1962.

The coldest weather will likely come Tuesday morning. So let's look at the all-time record low temperatures for Austin. The coldest low and overall temperature on record for Camp Mabry in Austin is -2 degrees on Jan. 31, 1949.

The current forecast calls for a low of 11 degrees on Tuesday morning. If this forecast verifies perfectly, then it would rank as a tie for the sixth-coldest low temperature on record.

So, to sum everything up, the current forecast does in fact call for the coldest weather in over 30 years. Monday's forecast high of 24 would be the coldest since Dec. 22, 1990.

Tuesday morning's forecast low would be the coldest since Dec. 23, 1989.

Cows can't fart fast enough? Californians may want to go back.

Heard Joe Bastardi on Hannity's radio show. Said something about CAT 5 conditions. Possible loss of power after the snow. It all starts late on Sunday.

northside of the DFW metroplex is looking at Sunday: 9 inches of snow, 19F at midnight falling to 0F with 15-20 mph winds. Monday: 10F high and -5F low. Another 5 inches of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday. Pretty sure some records will be broken this week. About 10 continuous days below freezing - that would be the 2nd longest streak.

Joe Bastardi Tweet

In Texas,if you are talking winter, then 1899 is the benchmark, though other great outbreaks occurred in the 80s but not with back to back heavy snow and ice events. In Texas with hurricanes. 1900 and Carla are arguably the benchmarks, Winter wise, this is in that ballpark

Doesn’t that show climate change is going the wrong way? Isn’t the earth supposed to get warmer?

It’s really entertaining to hear the so called “climate experts” try to explain how Polar Vortexes are created by global warming .... it gets so warm that the rain changes to snow.

Last ice age killed all mammals in Midwest. Next ice age will do the same. Chicagoland was covered with glacier ice several miles high. Then the next global warming came in, melting all that ice and formed the biggest body of fresh water on earth, we call The Great Lakes. Yes Virginia, it was before SUV’s were prowling the USA. It was natural climate cycles based on activity of the Sun which is a Million times bigger than the puny earth.

And man is so puny compared to the earth, those astronauts circling the earth can not see any man made objects. Alright, there is one object they can barely see, a short wiggly line...the Great Wall of China.

Earth’s climate has never stayed fixed for Billions of years. Ice ages visit earth regularly every 15-35 thousand years. There is plenty of geological evidence of past ice ages. The next ice age will kill more humans than all the wars combined. And humans have no power to stop it.

If someone thinks humans are more powerful than the million times bigger Sun, to affect the climate, it is over-estimating human power over power of Sun by 6 orders of magnitude.

If humans can create 0.01% more global warming than the Sun can, I am all for it. That could postpone the next ice age by a few more precious days of human life.
